I hope their mobile customer service is better than their broadband customer service, ie, they have some.

The takeaway is that you buy ‘speed’/throughput through your plans.
Interesting concept, not for me - I prefer to get the fastest speed possible.

The speed tiers will be interesting - how will they ensure minimum speeds in 3G or marginal areas? Unless they set them so low that it’s fairly easy for the network to deliver eg. 1mbps, 5mbps, 10mbps.

As with anything that runs over wireless, the more people using 5G in the area it in the area the more slower it gets

Here is two 5G snapshots of 8am and 11am in the same part of Wellington CBD - that's why people (mainly on Facebook groups) who say 5G wireless is a replacement for Fibre are dreaming

Speed tiers could work in NZ but with the starting price of $60 with MyRepublic would be too expensive for most New Zealanders. If MyRepublic or other providers starting price was $25 at 5mbps that would be perfect.

Might need to wait until the government starts offering Mmwave spectrum for it to be an alternative replacement for Fibre.

And be good for like what? 200M ? then you have the same limitations as xDSL - There is no replacement for fibre and anyone who thinks there will be is dreaming

@Dochart - thats another good point, starting at $60 is a reasonably high price point... and unlikely to sway the bulk of the Prepaid (spending between $16-$30 per month) and Pay Monthly ("endless mobile" plans) cohorts. It might be attractive for those who want to set a 24/7 web stream but I suspect that there will be a fair usage policy :P

Could make a good unlimited 20Mbps rural 4G connection for $100 / month. Though I'm sure there'll be something in the T & C's to disallow it.
