Hello All

Not long ago 2Talk has gone up from ~ $15 to $20.-/mth for 2 lines VOIP and calls to Germany(landline) to $ 0.50 Min which I find very steep.

Has anyone else had such price hikes with 2Talk?

I am very interested to hear if that has happened to others

I would suggest looking at Hero as an alternative. They have someone on Geekzone now too. I was on a historic plan with 2Talk, but ended up switching. While 2Talk have introduced a new back-end system, it felt very much like it was going nowhere for a long time. I liked the old interface, but features were constantly broken and support, which used to be excellent, became poor. The final straw was being told I could use the PBX features with mobiles, which you can't; it's completely separate.

VoIP should have delivered cheaper calls and texts, but instead it's stuck in the dark ages with $0.20 text messaging and excessive per-minute charges. I am currently paying $7.5 per month for unlimited calling/texts to Aus and NZ on my mobile (50% off offer from Kogan), so it only makes sense for me to keep a VoIP number for incoming calls. For that, I pay $2.30 per line.

Thanks @SirHumphreyAppleby

I just had a look at Hero and then compared the voice prices with 2Talk. Huh, It looks like my time might be up after being with 2Talk for 10-15 years.

I'll contact Hero to see how difficult it would be to move across and their setup costs. Would be nice if 2Talk could clarify the jump in costs?

My 2Talk bill also remains the same so far:

$11.50 2Talk-10 Single line

$6.90 Additional line

$6.90 (x ea.) Global Numbers.

I've never seen value in using their mobile services.
My (Can, US & NZ) services together offer a more usable system than 2Talk's

Thats all I see value in. Pay the $15 and get unlimited slow data that I can use in the second sim all the time and just swap to my other telco sim when I need the speed, so I can use it when I want rather than have 2-3 days of fast and then the rest of the month stuck on slow with no option to go fast other than upgrading the plan.

Apologies for derailing the thread - I recall you posting on the 2talk thread when they announced mobile, I didn’t realise you’d signed up in the end. May I ask how you’ve found it, particularly the ‘usability’ of the slow data day-to-day vs Spark’s throttled offering?

Just actually grabbed a couple more sims for use myself as I am cutting back spending. Works great for day to day stuff. YouTube music is laggier to get playing but doesn't skip once it is, just have to not have it updating apps or syncing photos etc when driving. That's only happened a couple of times that I have had something else start up and ruin it. Amazon music in HD doesn't work at all over it, and the low quality option seems to have buffering and more lag than youtube does.

I'm not trying to use it extensively on it, so not seen too many issues like when I used the spark unlimited. With the vodafone one being cheaper I just stuck with that but the last price increase has me re-thinking if that's worth keeping or just move to a cheaper plan without unlimited since I get the unlimited for $15 from 2talk.

I can scroll facebook and instagram fine, I can use twitter fine but opening the apps when they are refreshing is a bit slow.

Did they say it was going up ? If not, Id query it.

Yes they did announce the price hike.

Here is the voice pricing and here their new local and international calls. Germany with 50 cents a minute.

It really pushes us to move on.

+1 for Hero. Been with them 3 years for my business. Support is excellent by email so you don’t even need someone on GZ.

Don't think so, their web interface is great and has improved in the time I've been with them (I asked them to make it clearer as to the use of a bundle and it was changed that day).  They have been very responsive to support requests and I won't be one of their big contracts.  Their billing is per minute which doesn't bother me as their costs are low but I know it will bother some people.  You get email>SMS as part of their service, it didn't used to be on their website that this was included.

I was with VFX before and they are much easier to deal with as pretty much everything can be done on their website.  I have migrated lines from VFX, Vodafone & Telecom/Chorus & ADSL>fibre with them, all painfree.

Just chatted with a contact I have at 2Talk, and he advised that the only change recently is the Germany call costs.

No other pricing has changed for prob 4+ years. He said its possible you're on an old plan which they still honor, so you looking at the current pricing will appear to be an increase, but your plan is still the original price :)

Are you on a grandfathered plan ? :)

It could've been as it was $15.33/mth. We could bear the new monthly.

We frequently call relatives overseas and having to tell them to go on Skype or similar is a big ask for the older generation(especially Germany). 2Talk going to 50 cents a minute overstepped our barrier, unfortunately.
