Hi all,

Sorry to be such a n00b, just wanted to clear something up.

I tried to get Orcon at my new apartment in Auckland CBD but was told I couldn't get ADSL2+ (the guy didn't seem to know why).

If I get the regular Orcon Purple plan does that give me internet at Telecom ADSL2+ speeds? I have heard a few people say this. If so I will probably still get Orcon and switch to Orcon Home+ when it is available.

You'd probably be connected to Telecom ADSL2+ equipment (although Orcon will of course not guarantee that). According to Orcon's website, Auckland Central is unbundled, but perhaps your new apartment's phoneline would be connected to a roadside cabinet, hence not connected to Orcon equipment... not until the sub-loop unbundling agreements are sorted out anyway, and even then only if the given cabinet is commercially viable for Orcon (large number of Orcon subscribers connected to it).

In other words, don't hold your breath for Orcon+ at your new residence, but rest assured you will almost certainly be on ADSL2+ capable equipment.

Awesome, thanks for your help.

I had heard people saying they had only the normal purple plan but are still getting ADSL2+ speeds. I will give Orcon a go, since they have no term contracts anyway I can always pull out later

I am a bit confused as to why I cannot get ADSL2+ with Orcon as I am only 700 metres from the Airedale exchange. Hopefully one of their regular plans will give me the speeds I need for streaming video, otherwise I will be switching to Telecom after a month.

Would also be nice if the callcenter was aware of these problems, the guy I talked to didn't seem to have much of a clue.
