Getting some bad lag spikes in WoW and also having issues with international traffic. Local appears to be fine. Tested connecting from work to home (we go through the US as our client is based in San Ramon)and it is timing out a lot, usually the connection is very quick.

I've restarted the router a couple of times....sync speed is as it normally is. Will try restarting it again I guess. Will post again once I do a restart :-)

Can you send me some traceroutes etc? What type of account are you on?

We had some issues with some TelstraClear circuits this morning. However that should be resolved now.

There are romours going around that Cogent in USA is having issues (10% packet loss etc), which could explain your issues.

Ahh okay, would love to do a tracert from work but they block that through the proxy. Might try and see if I can do some tests at home.

Can't say I've had any issues with Orcon thus far. I'm getting a fairly quick speed loading web pages and general internet services , decent ping on wow and decent download speed. I get around 311-455 ms on the Muradin server and can download most stuff I need at a fairly good speed.

Let me share my troubleshooting steps when I can't login to World of warcraft. You might be able to modify these for the Age Of Conan.

1) Can I load up other webpages / other internet services ?

This would indicate if it was a problem with your connection or not.

2) Can I load the world of warcraft web page or it's forums ?

This would indicate if it was a problem with the worldofwarcraft domain. Since I think most of it's other servers run off the worldofwarcraft.com domain if either of these wasn't loading it would be a big indication of what the problem was

3) Ok when I start up wow and type gibberish into the password box is it coming back with a password error ?

This would indicate if there was a problem with the authentication server or not. What's common with authenitication server problems is it would "hang" on checking the password (the little box goes "Authenicating..."). If it coems back right away to tell me the password is wrong then I know it's not the Authentication server.

4) After that can I get to the character screen ?

This would indicate if it was a problem with the realm or world server. If I can't get into my character list I try switching realms.

Sorry if this was over long but you might want to see if you can break down where it's failing at . Try switching realms or something :D

Unlikley. P2P is really the only protocol that is hit hard by the shaper.

I assume you have read the articles on the shaper in the Digital life section of the Orcon website?

Thats a local speedtest. That is no indercation of international issues.

Looks like you have other problems.

I should have been a little clearer, the actual login is fine i get to the character screen.

Its the actually logging into the character that is the issue, it appears to time out near the end when it starts downloading data from the server. I did a packet sniff with wireshark last night and this morning. There is a big difference, but i forgot to save last nights capture. Basicly last night there was alot of packets marked as bad where as this morning there are none.

This isnt a server issue because 35+ other people on vent from NZ/Aussie are playing fine on the same server.

During this time i am the only one using the internet and i have tried other adsl routers.
Trace routes and pings to the aoc server are also fine during this time.

Tonight i plan to try from another computer and internet connection when it occurs again to count out something strange with my account.

It's Orcon !!! l'm leaving them today !! I need an ISP that can provide enough Bandwidth to game on International Servers. Orcon can't and haven't...so I'm gone.

Ive logged a ticket and will see if anything happens.

Although i am starting to look at other ISPs, over the last year Orcons international speeds for me have dropped during peak from 14000kb/s to 1500kb/s, sadly the ones ive looked at dont even come close to orcons pricing plans.

edit: forgot some 0s in my speeds.

I don't care about the cost of a plan if I get the service I payed for. Considering I have Homeline, Tolls and MAX/MAX ADSL2 with Orcon and only getting International download speeds of 1900kb/s or much less. It's time for me to go....they obviously don't care otherwise months of complaints, trace routes, tickets, phone calls, speedtests, modem changing, forum posts would have fixed it. So instead its easier for Orcon to let its customers walk out the door than fix issues of poor service. If they only knew how many others are actually going with me.

Goodbye Orcon !

I actually have no issues with Orcon (at the moment) There have been some ups/downs with other features i.e. Caller ID. But that all appears to be sorted now.

We did have the router dropping the ADSL connection off and on afew times last week but I've put that down to the humid weather of last week overheating the router as it has gone back to being stable as this week.

One thing I'd like changing is the $79.95 silver plan going from a 5GB cap to a 10GB I dont even mind loosing some services from the phone i.e. voice mail. Caller ID is the only service we really use.

Thats my only complaint is the data cap... although $1 GB is hard to beat. I also hear that they're a good company to work for, maybe I should email my CV, I need a change :-)
