It seems I have recently been hearing a lot about Cloud 9 "safe server" . I am with slingshot on fibre use it a lot for netflix tv youtube. Can I ask the "clever ones" if I should change my settings over to cloud 9 ? Or is it all just hogwash! (A technical term for "why bother")

Quad9.net (9.9.9.9) is valid & the IBM version of Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1

I have been using quad9 on my pfsense box in my home network for the last few years. It has good latency but not as good as Cloudflare

Run your own PiHole or similar, it'll talk to any or all of the 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8/9.9.9.9/etc too.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

No it doesn't block ads served from the same domain as the content, such as youtube. I use uBlock Origin browser plugin and haven't seen a youtube ad in years.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend pfsense or opnsense to a non-techy. It has a big learning curve. dd-wrt might be more suitable. Or just add adguard or pihole to your existing setup.
