I note that NZ Communications have added new cellsites in Petone,Moera, and Petone. They certainly have a excellent coverage footprint in the Hutt. I note coverage is available now on State Highway one just before Pukerua Bay.

They are still facing an uphill battle in Maungaraki with local residents who believe their properties will drop by 15% with a cellsite nextdoor.

Hmmm in time to come they might lose 15% if there is no cell coverage at there house?

People can be really funny about cell sites, mis information etc. it sounds like some areas are really bad for nutters and the anti cell site brigade. Christchurch so far is pretty accpeting, more low powered sites means better coverage and less potential harm from phones operating at high out put.

There are some cell panels and cabling being connected up on the corner of Webb St and Taranaki St in Wellington. The panels have been there for over a month but the cabling has been capped off. A technician is working up on a the roof of the building today and the cabinet was put in a few days ago.

I don't know if this is NZComms or Telecom 3G?

Yep 850mhz UMTS site, you can tell by the box pretty much. Telecom are doing quite a few 850mhz UMTS only sites around the place which is good, better than CDMA coverage at launch!!

The classic for nutters was the idiots who moved into Titahi Bay Wellington and b1tched about a proposed cell site of a few watts, all the while unaware of the RNZ mast up the road belting the National Programme at about 100kW.

Wonder why I can hear 2YA coming out the toaster?

Forgot to mention a new NZ Comms site has also  been erected at Woburn  by the existing Telecom site.

Another cellsite has been erected just by the AVA bridge parallel with the railway line.

A new site has gone up over the weekend next to Western Hutt railway stn. New mast has also gone up over the past few weeks right next to the VF site near Mt Cecil Rd.

I have noticed recently, one in Newlands, Kahndallah, Round the bays in town and a few more.

However I am it seems all their sites are linked using microwave links. This is not going to aid their QOS.

Nothing wrong with microwave linking. Doesn't have the latency of fibre but significantly cheaper and far more flexible.
