Quite some time ago with another ISP, I was having connection rate issues - only getting 2.5mbps connections etc when i had previously had 4mbps+.

When they were looking into the problem, I was told that my line should handle around 12mbps on DSL2+ (10 at worst) as I was only 2km as the copper lies from the exchange. Telecom ended up playing with my profile and supposedly set me to an ADSL1 profile rather than ADSL2/+ to see if things got better from the 2.5....

Long story short, got line fixed, ended up switching to Orcon+ network. Now I get approx 8mbps down and 800k upload. Which Im happy with. But recently got reminded of the potential "10mbps+" I could get.....

Now, is it possible I am still set as a ADSL profile rather than the "full/ADSL2" speed profile ? Or does everything (and I assume it does) get reset when you switch from Telecom gear to Orcon ?

All is fresh and new when you switch to Orcon and to the Orcon+ network.

Maybe the state of the wiring in your house is causing your lower speed?

Well, all 5 techs I had out last time, said the wiring seemed to be good :)
Its a Telecom install as well so in theory not an issue with other devices. (Yeah right)

Im happy with what i get anyway but thought if I could get more, then grab it :)

Can't really comment on potential speeds without seeing your line stats (attenuation, etc.). If by 'approx 8 mbps' you mean 7616 kbps, then that would almost certainly be a G.DMT connection (ADSL1)... but it's unlikely that Orcon would have put you on a G.DMT profile. Your modem should tell you if you're on G.DMT or ADSL2+ modulation either way (it might also say 'Multimode' which would be ADSL2+ on Orcon equipment unless they had you on a G.DMT profile).

Of course, being on Orcon, getting your sync rate higher than 8 Mbps is only going to pay off for national endpoints. International performance at the moment is pretty poor... at least for Orcon bitstream customers like me (and I would be unamused if Orcon+ customers were treated any differently as far as bandwidth provisioning goes).

Since you are on Orcon+, you are actually connected to Orcon DSLAMS in the exchange, not Telecoms.

So your old port settings on the Telecom DSLAMS, won't have been copied across to the Orcon DSLAM...funnily enough :)

based on your line stats, 8mbit or so is what I would expect to see.

Yeah, I have very similar attenuation and link speeds on Orcon+.

With that attenuation figure, you're probably scheduled to be cabinetised in the next couple of years. There's a few threads here on this subject.
