I think that is exactly what it is. I can get good speeds from other servers just not from rapidshare.

Might need to abandon orcon soon.

Use to get great download speeds from rapidshare but the last couple of days it has slowed down a lot, so I'm guessing some sort of shaping has been put in place.

Yes I think so too. I sent them an email just now. Its not like im on a unlimited plan with them, I pay for my bandwidth so i dont see why they would do that.

Yes, i have the same issue, this is crap, if this is Orcons new plan to limit traffic then they just lost a $160 per month customer.

It's not just Rapidshare. The infinitely better Megaupload is also limited.

Time to make a call to Orcon tomorrow.

I got a email a email back from them saying its not them and its rapidshare but we all know it must be orcon because no one else besides orcon customers seem to be complaining about the speed.

Personally I'm on Orcon as well and had never had a problem with Rapidshare.

Can someone post a link they are having problems with ?

Usually I solve any speed issues with rapid share by either paying for a limited time account (say 1 or 3 days) and using their premium links.

Or by sampling each mirror until i find a decent speed. There is a little triangle thingy you can expand where you can select a new mirror. I select a mirror ...let it run ..... stop it if slow.... select another mirror .... until I find a decent download speed.

I use a full time premium account which i pay for yearly, if you use the free links then I guess you wouldn't notice any difference in speed as the free ones are pretty slow.

It dropped from 1.2 MB per sec to around 200 - 300 k/s tops if you have about 10 files going with 10 splits.

It dropped about 2 days ago.

Never had this issue before.

It's on all rapidshare links, so giving you a link wouldn't help.

Umm I thought I could help by posting what speeds I was getting as another Orcon customer.

Then again I'm perfectly with my sub standard house wiring I'm happy when something goes at 200 k/s
Your standarad on how fast something should go is a lot higher than mine :P

Wasn't it Ocron that started to use the same caching service that Slingshot uses? I can't find the news article of who else is using there service.

What Slingshot users get is the 1st 10mB-20mB come down at fullspeed and then, because it's a bulk download, the connection gets slowed to 30kBps, if you have more that one DL then this 30kBps gets divided between those downloads. One solution for the paied RS users is to stop wait and then restart the download to get the max speed. AutoScipt was used by Slingshot uses to automate the process.

Slingshot does this to most bulk downloading sites, megaupload, rs, filefactor...

Yes, RS premium account holder here.
I've been on the Orcon+ network since 11th march and have been very pleased with the internet speeds overall since then. Up until last friday that is.
Rapidshare used to give me up to 1.5MB/s with only a few connections (ie < 10), but on friday, the average speed per connection dropped to a miniscule 10kb/s. Similar with Megaupload (although im only a registered free user, I used to get ~100-200kb/s on a single connection).
Even international public mirrors for Linux distro's etc would be lucky to get 100kb/s.
National and Aus speeds seem to be unchanged however.
Also, it appears interleaving on the connection decided to turn itself on :S
I understand that ppl on Skype etc should not get cut off mid call, and dont mind some 'legit' QoS, the whole reason I have an RS account is so I dont have to wait and complain about the lack of seeders when downloading torrents. But I want my fast HTTP traffic back.
And its not just file downloading, even overseas websites that are not mirrored locally/in aus load slowly.
You cant tell me that on friday orcon got so many new customers that they cut my effective international capacity by a factor of 100

Interestingly enough, after about 10 connection dropouts (the gateway connection, not the DSL), the latest lasting several minutes (around 2am) downloads seem to be back to normal (300kb/s from MU, my RS is depleted so cant test it lol). And interleaving is off again.

Hopefully its back to what it was pre-friday, and stays that way.

How are you getting 1.5MB/s, max i was getting was about 700KB/s. maybe your location?

Yip its orcon. I use to get really bad peaktime RS speeds, switched ISP and problem solved.
