It may just be me, but im experiencing some pretty low http browsing speeds. Down to around 200-300 kilobits instead of my usual 10+megabits of (actual) browsing speed. Yesterday was normal, now it's a new billing cycle..

Courtenay Place xchange (Orcon+) (1km line-length from exchange)

Homehub
Downstream rate: 18836 kbps
Upstream rate:1020 kbps

Noise margin:	5.2 dB (downstream) / 17.9 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation:	30.6 dB (downstream) / 13.1 dB (upstream)

How are you measuring that 200-300 kbps? A speed test of some sort (like speedtest.net)?

Well, HTTP throughput seems pretty normal on my connection (same sync rate as you, on Orcon bitstream), and I wouldn't expect particularly high sustained throughput with regular HTTP browsing (i.e. HTML, JavaScript, small images, etc.). If you happened to glance at NetMeter whilst streaming video or downloading a large Flash file and saw 10 Mbps, that would make sense, but 200-300 kbps seems in the ballpark of pretty normal to me for a typical no-frills web site. Does your connection actually *feel* slower than yesterday? If you try to ignore what NetMeter is telling you that is.

If you get expected results from speedtest.net (e.g. typically 5-10 Mbps for international during off-peak), then any degradation in performance you may be experiencing is unlikely to be caused by Orcon's network.

Yeah I did notice quite a delay in page load times so I looked at the meter. Tried a number of national and international sites. Turns out it was everything that had a bit of lag. Seems to have mostly cleared up now.

After several internet gateway disconnections tonight, it seems to be fixed (fingers crossed).
I had the same problem with speed since ~friday, maybe they underpurchased international bandwidth and it ran out b4 the end of our billing cycles or something, it better not happen again.
(I rang helpdesk on Saturday but the guy claimed nothing had been changed)

As an ex ISP helpdesk person (a real ISP, not Xtra) issues like that are often not communicated to the the frontline grunts, especially on the weekend. And the chances of finding a network guy who is not working his arse off on a weekend day to get out of there is about the same as getting a politician to respond yes or no to a question.

It is possible that happened. It is also possible a router fell over in the US, taking out part of the network route between you and the destination. Maybe some new piece of crap music clip with a hint of nipple showing was posted on Youtube and every spottyfaced little herbert rushed to download it after beign tested by one or more other spootyfaced little herberts.

You never can tell.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

Speeds definitley slow up here in Napier on Orcon at work. REALLY slow. I ended up logging into a client's terminal server so I could go to the whitepages to find a phone number.
