Hi,

I'm currently a disgruntled Xnet customer, and I'm going to switch to Orcon. I have a D-Link DSL G604T router, and I'm wondering if it would be worth it to rent a HomeHub to use instead? The remote servicing sounds good, and I've heard it works better than most routers with the Orcon network (and maximum speed is important to me).

Also, selling my current router would be good for some pocket money :P

I have had no issues with the HomeHub - rock solid connection at a great sync speed for my distance from the exchange.

As far as I am concerned $5 / month is a small price to pay . . .

D-Links are known to not be so flash when connected up to an Orcon DSLAM, assuming you are able to get Orcon+.

So yes its worth getting a homehub if you dont have another router to use.

I'm in Dunedin (Mosgiel to be precise) so unfortunately no + availability for me (my exchange won't even be upgraded for Telecom ADSL2+ until October 2010) so just regular ADSL for me :(

I think I'll give the homehub a shot regardless. I've had some issues with the D-Link, especially with Xnet, with it regularly disconnecting and requiring me to cycle power.

Just one last question - I'm assuming it has 4 ethernet ports?

EDIT: Never mind, found a picture of the back with the 4 ports.

pssshhh i wouldn't bother you'll still be telecoms dslams in a telecom exchange their gear works perfectly fine with their dslams

1)they sync higher, i recieved a 15% boost in speed over my d-link router

2)They hold connection better, quite simply, it doesnt drop connection as much as d-link.

I believe this is only the case on LLU connections, as the reason why the enhanced performance and reliability is that the Homehub is a Siemens Gigaset SX763, which is a matched pair with the Siemens equipment Orcon puts in exchanges.
