They brought back the 15GB carryover for $55 back as well... Which looks awkward as you can pay $10 more and get 80GB carryover.

It was 10gb before that for $50/mo so this has actually gone up in price by $5.

But, 2degrees have lost me as a customer anyway due to their deals targeting new customers only, not existing, for example their iPhone preorder:

The 15GB Carryover definitely existed years ago before that change, wouldn't say it's gone up... Just returned to how things were.

That deal is pretty solid, if you're a new sign up. Gotta remember margins are super thin to non existent with Apple devices.

I think 2degrees have since updated the promo — the $700 saving applies to everyone now (on the $80 plan), but the "50% off your plan" only applies to newbies.

Previously deals would apply to existing customers. One NZ and Spark are doing it for new and existing.

2degrees have become less competitive both with the plan changes here and customer deals.

Still showing for new customers only for me!

May be for new Pay Monthly customers only, check the T&Cs at the bottom of this page for each phone offer. The Monthly repayment displayed below includes the discount. The repayments may be higher for existing Pay Monthly customers.

This is totally not confusing at all!

Not disagreeing, but the margins on handsets are ridiculously slim. Especially on Apple. There's more margin in the monthly cost per connection and as always there's paying it back if terminated in less than 13 months & other add-ons.

You don’t have to pay anything back as the credit is split of 24 months

So these plans are far worse for a subset of people.

For years now, 2degrees has offered Kiwi Heroes which gives a discount off your phone plan. This was active for their old plans as referenced by this archive.org snapshot:

I, personally, was on the $43 plan and I know many people who take advantage of these plans. It was a pretty good deal. This was an automatic discount when added and wouldn't show when you did change your plan as it appeared as a discount item on your bill like this:

This means if somebody did change their plan most would assume they will still get a plan discount as there has been zero communication that Kiwi Heroes has had its plug pulled and will only find out this is missing with their next bill. Like geez guys, how many times have these silent changes happened over the years now when the customer wasn't informed?

It doesn't matter for me... I know 2degrees are no-longer "fighting for fair" and I'm now moving away because they're just simply not being competitive anymore. Their network is OK, but not up to par with the other 2 providers and they still are missing features like Apple Watch eSIM support.

It gets even more embarrassing when you go back to May last year and see somebody with the Kiwi Heroes discount could get 16gb for $51/mo - Archive.

Do better 2degrees. Start living up to your motto of "fighting for fair" and actually innovate instead of re-releasing stale old plans when in reality it's just a price rise. You say you're committed to that fight so prove it - Spark were the last to make a disruptive move with mobile plans.

I'm out...

As part of this, are the "Sidekick" plans new? https://www.2degrees.nz/mobile-plans/sidekick-plans

Looks like its now $5/device to share data, which was previously free (although some historical hiccups).

I wonder how long we can stay on the "old" plan...

Interesting. I might be being blind, but what’s the difference? Is the paid one eSIM only, and the free one “normal” SIM?

@phrozenpenguin ' Watch sidekick ' is eSIM only so you can have your main mobile number on your smart watch and ' Data sidekick ' is just another SIM / eSIM in another device like a tablet and you share data with it from your main plan

I already share data with my tablet, for free, using the “shared data” option. So apart from maybe eSIM, I can’t see what the paid option is for. I already share with 5 devices, so it’s potentially another $25/month with the Sidekick options.

@phrozenpenguin correct cheaper to grab a prepaid SIM and just share data with that and put it into the tablet - no $5 monthly charge

Maybe the new billing system isn’t fighting for far, it’s fighting for more profit!

It’s shocking they have scrapped the kiwi hero’s scheme. Many people were on that.

My wife switched to Spark a few weeks ago as the new billing system is a step backwards

i just have to switch my mother in law but she lives on another island which makes it harder!
