I have slingshot internet orbi router and ultra fast fiber box on wall. If I wanted to change from slingshot can i or do stay with ultrafast for fiber? I just paid my monthly charge $145 which includes a $20 cheap mobile phone account. I have no idea if thats good or bad. Suggestions of where to find out?

Sorry to ask this but do you research anything before posting a question? Asked 1000s of times on Geekzone

Ultrafast is the wholesale fibre provider you have zero choice if you want to stay on fibre broadband, You can't request to change to Chorus or NorthPower fibre

Check out the retail websites of internet providers, Spark, OneNZ, 2degrees, Skinny, Quic etc

Then you speak about your cheap mobile plan $20 per month and include zero information about it! We have zero idea what you get for $20 per month and how much you require per month

edit: Further to this you don't mention what speed fibre plan you are on and what speed you require

Please forgive Linux abrupt comments.

Why do you want to swap?

Is your service not giving you the speeds you expected? Is it more expensive than another provider?

To swap providers you will simply fill a form on their site, provide the fibre ONT serial number and arrange a date for a switch.

You will have to set your router configuration to work with the new provider's settings - mainly VLAN 10 or no VLAN depending on service.

The mobile phone you have may be part of a discount that includes mobile and broadband. You have to ensure this is advantageous for you in terms of price, and if you will lose any discount.

@gnfb Yes sorry for abrupt comment don't take it personally but before thinking of changing ISP sit back and think what do I want to achieve from changing

You don't mention what speed plan you are on for the $145 if you were paying $145 for 100/20 then yes I would look at another ISP

@gnfb so for $120 I take it you are on a fibre Gb connection?

2degrees $104 for Gb and do you really need a Gb connection? 500/100 $89 you can even bring that down to $79 with a pay monthly mobile plan that start from $35

What's your current connection speed, and what do you use it for? How many people in the household? It may be that a less expensive/slower connection would be suitable.

Let me come back when i have got some numbers the idea is cutting costs. There are so many variables I am surprised if there is not a pricespy type of thing for internet.

Edit: https://www.broadbandcompare.co.nz/

I would never recommend Broadband Compare as a good comparison site. ISP's have to pay to rank on there only for Broadband Compare to always rank their own reseller, Simply Broadband as the very top meaning ISP's that are better suited are normally buried many pages in because many won't pay to rank higher. It's purely an advertising + pay to win site like the other Compare group sites.

Linux: Quic offers Gb for $110 per month $90 for 500/100

Quic are also a self supported ISP. Unless if you're technically inclined or willing to learn I wouldn't recommend them to everyone. Don't get me wrong, they're great, but not for everyone.

You've got Vetta (https://vetta.nz) who are better suited for everyone else.

If somebody is looking around for different providers then let them - we don't need to ask why. It is quite clear the OP is trying to find the best deal and there are certainly deals out there.

Speaking of deals.

Mercury is still offering 6 months free broadband on a one year term with power and broadband (regardless of speed).
Haven't needed to use their customer service and they are dual stack (PPPoE and DHCP with VLAN 10). By default they are CG-NAT... you can buy a one off static too.
Mercury is probably the best $$$ over 12m. Anyone else can't match.
I have some criticism of Mercury but only from a technical minded person(so I am not a complete shill... I also haven't posted my ref link) You can have rDNS but you gotta ask. No static IPv6 prefixes yet. $300 ETC if you break and it's a one year deal and your power rates may not be the same...

If you want a good network with paid support. I do also recommend Vetta. NZ support. Great folk too.

Query, what router do they provide? I was just looking at their plans and they seem quite reasonable. I note if they supply the router it's a 12 month contract - do you keep the router at the end of it, or pay per month for it afterwards, or...?
