I found out today that 2degrees has an option in their self-service portal to request a static IP address.

Process was pretty quick - submitted the order at 11:11am and it was activated at 11:44am.

Their website still tells people to email or call.

Noting it here so people are aware you can just do it by logging in and pressing the big blue button next to Static IP on the broadband connection page.

Another tick for 2degrees making it easy to do this. :)

Thanks for the kind works @KiwiSurfer :)  I'll inform our content teams about the website directions.  Out of curiosity, did you also get informed you were provided an IPv6 static?  We can improve the time to deliver as well but just haven't found the time to get that work done.  At the end of the day the customer still needs to restart their device so they get assigned the new IP.  We could automate that but while that may be beneficial for one customer, another may get frustrated if we randomly drop their internet during the change.

That's nice.

Is it possible to add the option to get a static during the onboarding?

I personally wouldn't mind if the disco providing it's made very clear this will happen as a warning as your session needs to be terminated to apply the static.

Is there an option for a dynamic real IP address available? That is the only reason that some people I support have had to get statics begrudgingly in order to get an internet connection that works both ways.

@MaxineN - I was fairly certain the new customer signup offered it.....I'd have to check to be sure.

@richms - Unfortunately CGNAT is becoming more common to deal with the quantity of IPv4 addresses.  Our Slingshot brand still offers dynamic IP but this is likely to change at some point this year.  Unfortunately, a static is the only option.

Disconnection if they are on DHCP would be a mess, so probably best to tell them to do it themselves when ready.

I didn't get anything about a IPv6 static - the email I recevied only advised me of my new IPv4 address.

Also the email confirming the order was a bit strange -- it didn't say thing that I had ordered a static IP, just a generic "we've received your order' message. Not a biggie as I knew what the order was for but I did find it a bit strange it didn't say somewhere that the order was for a static ip.

I'm fine with restarting to get the new IP. I ordered it for my home connection while I was at work expecting it to take a few hours/days so will just bounce the connection when I get home tonight.

I don't recall seeing it during new customer signup but I might have overlooked it.

It may be helpful for some people if an IPv6 static address could be set without also requesting a static IPv4 address. As IPv6 addresses are so plentiful there shouldn't be the costs associated with IPv4 purchases.
