Is Slingshots The Big Thing plans run over Vodafones Red Network?

I am currentlyon The Red Network but it says i can't get slingshots The Big Thing plan. I live in Beach Haven on the North Shore in Auckland.

I was under the impression if you could connect to the red network, you could get this plan? AM i wrong here?

Yes, it is Vodafones Red Network.

I don't know what's happen with that whole change over,  there have been a few starting problems.  Delays was a big problem in getting Telecom to change the line, as it would take two changes and one one could be done per month.

Call the Slingshot helpdesk 0800892000 and see if you can get some details from them.

http://forums.slingshot.co.nz/ has a few questions like your and there are some people who are on it already, so you could ask them about details, like dl speeds and ping times.

It says that its not available because you are in an area that is due for a cabinet - 2011 at the moment :( but I have being told that they are pushing the schedule up so it should be sooner.

When that happens, any connections off the exchange (which is up by the bus depot at verrans corner) will go from succky slow, to not working well, if at all.

At which point slingshot would have to change you back to wholesaled telecom to deliver a service worth having.

Vodafone appeard to not care about things like that when initially saying who could get red network. So while it may be slightly better then telecom services from the exchange now, you will have service disruption in the future unless the ISPs move you to wholesale, which will lose the benifits of being on their own networks.

It's just strange that both myself and my mate are connected to the birkenhead exchange, he can get the slingshot plan but i can't. What would be the reaosn for that?

I don't quite get what you are saying... as i know it, i'm on the Vodafone unbundled network.... why would this change in the future?

Because when the cabinet goes in in your area, you'll end up with your line passing through it back to the exchange where Vodafone's equipment is. This will effectively stop your connection working because of the interference in the cabinet from the telecom wholesale DSL equipment that will be there. If it ceases to work for you, then you'll probably have to change back to Tcom wholesale.

Your friend may live in an area on that exchange that won't be cabinetised, so his line wouldn't have the 'future issues' that yours will.
