I've had the same problem as of about 2-3 weeks ago. 1.7 down, 1 up whereas previously I was getting 5-6 down and 1 up. My pings have also increased and drop outs are more frequent.

Enter your address (see link below) and check if your area has had a cabinet installed recently. A cabinet dramatically increases sync speed for people on ISP's using Telecom wholesale equipment but can cause problems for people on LLU connections like Orcon+ and the Vodafone Red network.

Apparently this is because your line has to be patched through to the exchange from the cabinet instead of terminated on equipment in the cabinet which can cause interference problems.

http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps

If your area has been cabineted you can ring the helpdesk and tell them, they might have some options available to you or might be able to make some changes to resolve the problem.

It would appear this cabinet upgrade is causing my extremely slow speeds? Is there anything Orcon can do from here to rectify this?

i guess it would depend on how bad it is? whats your connection stats

if its a serious downgrade, personally i would ask that Orcon change me to UBS network but keeping the current LLU plan/pricing, until they put gear into those cabinets and change you back. if not i would probably change ISPs as their non-llu plans are not very enticing.

I've contacted Orcon and they are moving me to the UBS network keeping my same plan. Couldn't tell me exactly how long it would take but should be within a week hopefully.
