So i've just moved up to Wellington from Christchurch and have an apartment in town that i will be moving into in two weeks. It's on the corner of Courtenay Place and Tory Street.
My questions are a consequence of reading and hearing quite a few less than stellar stories abotu Orcon's services.
- Where is the central city exchange? Or, how far will i be from it?
- If i get Orcon at the new apartment, how much of a difference will it make to use Orcon's modem or Homehub? I currently have a Linksys AM300 which has performed perfectly well before, and a Linksys WRT610N wireless router which i want to use.
- This then leads onto a Homehub question about whether it supports wireless N? If not, then i don't want to bother using it, but i don't want to find that Orcon is going to perform sub par because i'm not using their gear. Surely that's going to piss a bunch of people off if they're only letting them use lesser specced gear?
- And finally, there seems to be a whole heap of chatter about Orcon's new undeniable traffic shaping regime. I use Rapidshare to send and recieve large amounts of data from family within NZ, Canada, Australia and Europe very regularly, and speed is sometimes quite important. Am i better off heading to a different provider? I would use Torrents or some other P2P type but they're traditionally more shaped than a RS account...
