This is my Dynalink connection status, using Orcon's 101GB Plan. Would yous say the stats below are good?

Also, as you can see the Attainable Line Rate has a speed of 9440 Kbps downstream, does this mean if there was no service provisoning at the DSLAM at the exchange, I would be able to sync at those speeds?

Hi, is it not possible to edit the size of the above picture, its a lot of white.

Anyway, which modem exactly is it, and is it in ADSL2+ mode, I suspect not. 20dB attenuation should see sync speeds nearly twice what you have, something tells me its locked in ADSL1 mode. If infact it is in ADSL2+ then you have a wiring issue thats killing some of the band.

As for real download rates. with a sync rate of 8160kb/s assuming the server you are pulling data from can support that throughput to your DSLAM them you should expect a TCP download speeds of around 80% of that figure (ie around 7Mb/s).

Edit: OK I see you have a 1320, this is ADSL2+ capable, can you confirm that this is how its set to connect. Also tell me about your wiring, what filters are in place, how many phones are connected to your house wiring.

Cheers

Cyril

Well,

I'm using ADSL 1. As Fielding's DSLAMS are not ADSL 2/2+ at the moment (Upgrade in 2011).
There are four phone jacks in the house, non split line, using micro filters. Two sockets being utilized, one for the phone (micro filter installed), and another for the ADSL Router also using a Micro filter connected to the ADSL port.

The phone jack which is connected to the ADSL router is an extension, it was installed by SKY TV for use of the digital decoder, which at the moment is not connected.

You might want to confirm with the Helpdesk.

Assuming you are not on Orcon+, then you could be on an old ADSL1 plan, or on an exchange which is ADSL1 only.

Hi, ok then your stats are just dandy, nothing you can is likely to improve it, but then again it does not need improving. As I said technically if the backhaul to your exchange, and most importantly the backhaul between Orcon and the Telecom handover point in your region (presumably Palmy) has enough capacity, and the connection to the server you are load from can support it then you should be able to acheive download rates.

What do you get if you use www.speedtest.net to say Napier or Auckland servers.

Cheers

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8160 Kbps 992 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 11072 Kbps 1100 Kbps
Noise Margin 16.5 dB 12.0 dB
Line Attenuation 20.0 dB 11.0 dB

This is my recent stat, you see the Attainable Line Rate, why cant my router sync at those speeds if the line is able to handle it? Is it a limitation of ADSL 1, or is there some configuration on the DSLAM preventing me from achieving those speeds.

Geesh I wish Fielding had ADSL 2+. When's VDSL coming out, this year? Q3 for cites other then Auckland I think?

If you are infact on ADSL1 then I find it odd that you managed a 16Mb/s Speedtest, with one test at 25Mb/s, purhaps there is some caching going on. Regardless, its normal that the Line and Attainable rate have a significant difference both with ADSL1 and 2+, its simply the modem indicating that it has usefull carriers out to X but there are a few holes in the middle, ie Bins that are corrupted so dismissed from use, this is normal.

I dont think you have anything to complain about, your well ahead of the countries average internet connection line rate.

i have placed a ticket and am now waiting to get back to my normal speeds, I have have a dual core 3hgz pentium and have done a full reinstall. I have replaced my rta 1320 dynalink with a new rta 1320 and a new line filter we do not have sky or alarms and one phone jack.

are my adsl 2 modem stats all ok ?

Your ADSL connection looks fine, very good infact, its saying you could have 16-18Mb/s or TCP traffic. Only slight issue is downstream S/N although not uncommon for Orcon and within ADSL2+ spec for a stable connection, so if you dont have lots of errored frames and regular resyncs then nothing to worry about.

I suggest you talk to Orcon about their international ability.

Hi, the 300kHz attenuation figure works out at around 13.9dB/km, so your around 1.5km (use the downlink attenuation).

Also as a test to do, if you go to www.speedtest.net what do you get connecting to servers in Auckland and Napier.
