According to http://www.slingshot.co.nz/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=999&tabid=30&subnav=1 (Naked DSL Overview)

"An active homeline is initially required"

And http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=81&action=new_disc_topics (Setup)

How to setup nDSL

Here are some things you need to know:

  1. You require a connected landline to start - have a chat to Telecom to arrange this

I am shifting to a new address, and don't already have a landline account with Telecom, so this would seem to imply setting upa landline account with them and then cancelling it to go with slingshot.

Anyone who has had the same situation please let me know. It seems a bit awkward...

I don't know about Slingshot, but definitely with World Exchange a connected land line is not required

Naked DSL sucks, it was left out in the cold when all the new databanking and free data between 1am and 7am - imo it's cheaper to get interenet with pots and the other advantages of databanking and free data,

Still call the Slingshot Helpdesk 0800 89 2000 and see what they can do.

Mine was setup without a telecom line - well there was one in the house but the naked dsl was in addition to it.

Contracted tech came at some time and put it onto the second pair of the outside cable and came inside, checked had sync at the old second line jack and it was job done.

But the plans are crap IMO - no free offpeak, no databanking. And you cant seemlessly change from naked to having a PSTN line - IMO for the small difference in price, just get the PSTN line and then you can use it for nothing if you dont want it.

Moved into a new house (no line) and did get nDSL ok from xnet. Did have to pay the wiring charges though ($99 I think).

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just to be a bit clearer, there is an installed landline phone, but not an active account/phone number (and no dial tone as such obviously)...
