Hi Guys, I am subscribed to the iTalk a bit package. I have a new Linksys Spa-2102 Device hoocked up onto my Telecom ADSL Modem. It worked as is from Slingshot and all I had to do was plug it in and connect my phone.

The problem I am having however is that every now and again there is no dialtone on the phone. This has happened now on a few occations. In order to get up and running again I have to reset power on the linksys, this solves the problem until it happens again.

Any ideas? I have not made any changes at all to my router or the linksys ata.

Cheers

Try giving the SPA2102 a static IP address on your local network.

Does your ADSL drop out frequently at all?

Thanks I will give that a bash.

Surely the SPA2102 should recover should the ADSL loose connectivity for a short period of time?

I found recovery from any ADSL issues was much quicker once I gave my PAP2T a static IP address (also on iTalk). Otherwise it would sometimes sit there.

Haha... I had that problem. Their provisioning will no doubt be setting DNS servers, which they'll vehemently deny. Those DNS servers will not respond to queries for *.italk.co.nz.

You can check this by looking at the ATA's web interface. if the DNS server settings are anything other than the IP of your router (because it will hand it out with DHCP), then you've got this issue.

You'll also find that the device will never have an 'uptime' of more than 60 minutes. It'll also drop your call when that 60 minutes comes around. I posted a thread about this a month or two ago.

The fix is to do a hard reset on the device, and turn off provisioning, and set up the device manually yourself to connect to their servers.

Thanks guys, I have assigned it a static IP, manually configured the gateway, subnet and set it to use my ISP DNS Servers. Will wait and see if it helps.

Mjb, what do u mean by a hard reset and turning off provisioning?

Cheers

I mean a factory reset sorry.. You can perform this by entering a specific dtmf code one your phone (I forget which, sorry).

Once that's done, you'll have access to all features of the device on the web interface again. on the advanced voice interface, you'll find the provisioning tab where your device is configured to download its configuration from slingshot/iTalk. This configuration in my experience isn't suited to users who are not a slingshot broadband customer.

Doing this will mean that you have to manually configure the ATA again so that it connects to iTalk, it's not difficult, but if you're not comfortable with that I'd recommend you just call Slingshot and ask them for help, explaining exactly what's happening.

Yep, thought that was it, but wasn't sure.. Thanks :)

I think there's a '1' on the end to confirm too (there's a voice prompt). Note that you can only dial this if there's a dialtone in my experience.
