We are moving house in a few weeks, i'm currently on Vodafones Red Network and am very happy with the speeds.

When we move i'm thinking about joining up to Slingshots Next Big Thing as it's available in my area.

As i understand it, Slingshot runs this service over Vodafones Red Network? If this is the case, can soemone on Slingshots Next Big Thing plans expect better speeds than someone on the standard Slingshot plans? Or at least the same speeds as someone on Vodafones Red Network would experience?

I've just switched from Red to the next Big thing. Very much the same speed (connection rate is identical) but the same priced plans give you more data and options

The quality of...

Your house wiring
Your modem/router
The copper line to the exchange/cabinet
Exchange equipment
Backhaul connection from the exchange to your ISP's handover point
The ISP's dns, routing, traffic management and available bandwidth

.. will affect your percieved speed

Changing ISP changes the bottom 2-3.

Why can't Slingshot sign up new connections themselves?

I was told by Slingshot CSR to move my Vodafone connection to my new house and then call and signup with Slingshot - only issue is, it will cost me $150 to move my Vodafone homephone and broadband accross and I may miss out on the first month free with Slingshot!!

What a hassle.... a costly hassle!!

I think the issue is that slingshot just resell bandwidth from the Red Network. They possibly don't have the infrastructure to create new connections like Telecom and Vodafone. If you do go ahead with this, make sure your changeover date is just before your montly billing cycle with vodafone ends so you don't pay for a big part of the unused month.

10 days into my slingshot and I have already used 17GB off peak!

That's what i'm worried about.... i've started the process today but ti've only got 9 days to get it all done, otherwise Voda will charge us for another full month.... i will argue it though and ask for a part monthly credit if it rolls over by 1 or 2 days!

Should be done within the week.

Let me know if it's getting close and you're still not connected.

Thanks Slingshot :)

Once Vodafone has switched us over to the red network at our new address, how long does it take to be switched to Slingshot?

On the day of activation, the whole thing takes 3-4 hours. Starts in the morning and we'll text you to confirm it's all complete. :)
