Hey Geekzoners,

As we zoom towards our August launch we've teamed up with Kidscan to auction off 85 of our golden numbers on Trademe.

With 10 million new numbers in our number range if you join the 2degrees network, you'll be able to port over your existing number (in it's entirety - so including the prefix) or you'll be able to pick and mix a new 022 number.

Over the next three weeks you'll see some numbers appearing in the Trademe auction so take a look everynow and again and see if your perfect number is in there and place a bid for the kids.

www.trademe.co.nz/2degrees

Cheers!
2degrees

Good to know that the numbers I want are NOT there. Gives me hope.

Be nice if you could book a number you want and at least be given first go at getting it.

The charity auctions are a nice idea...

Is there going to be the ability to change number to something that we want? Telecom would do that for me but vodafone refused. I have a few in mind that I wouldnt mind grabbing on launch, and it would be good if you guys would do that say on the $20 sims since that would mean that you get to have a greater number of sims sent out at launch time.

If you have 022 4SPIDEY or 022 SPIDEY I'd totally pay good money for it!

this would be good, but with a limit of say 2 per customer. Otherwise you'll get people buying heaps of good numbers then just selling them on TM for a profit Undecided

That sounds like a good idea to me - no different to personalized plates except that most people cant even get the cost of a brand new one for a used one these days... 2degrees are obviously testing the water for what people with pay with their own listings on there making people feel good that its for charity.

Also do you end up with a donation recipt for the bid price to put thru on your tax refund?

Fantastic, just signed up for chinwag myself, so I look forward to seeing if that number if available, or if a fellow geekzoner can reserve it for me that would be fantastic :D

I have an unusual first name, "myname smith" on Google gives about 1000 matches.  I'd pay $100 for 022 myname.  But I don't want it as a charity donation, I want to give 2 degrees the money so they can compete better with VF and Telecom (ie more cell sites, less roaming).  By the way, that list of names on Trademe that you're going to auction, well sucks.  It could be 10 times larger.

We've only put on a small selection of numbers up for auction so from launch there should be plenty of opportunity for you to pick n' mix through our range for a number that is more "you".
From launch there will be a feature on our website that will let you search through the available numbers but you will need to have purchased a 2degrees SIM card to do that. If you've signed up for Chinwag - well then you've got that part covered!

Cheers!

so are we able to reserve/change our number online, or just see if the one we want is available?

This is a really bad question!!!

If you win the auction, can you port the winning 022 number onto a current plan with another provider?? Innocent

All that effort.. to get a preferential number and then port it? If i was 2Degree's i'd frown at such actions. They are creating initiatives and ideas to help attract users to their network. If by chance, you won an auction by them, then use some common sense and courtesy and stay with them for some time!
