It's a given Vodafone and Telecom will drop their prices soon.
Would you still switch to 2degrees if the prices are equivalent?

To be fair, I don't think any telco cares about any individuals small spend.

Everyone has different wants and needs, so they likely aim for a large demographic, to hell with all the small fish, and any single customer who thinks they are uniquely valuable can really just go and get shafted elsewhere.

It comes down to what suits you, not who wants you.

:o)

I probably won't switch as I am a heavy data user.

Being an iPhone user, I find Telecom's XT network to be the most ideal. And I find Telecom's prices to be rather competitive too (for now anyway).

From my perspective 2D appear to be targeting the low volume private user, effectively the small fish that the big boys keep throwing back in the pond.

If in the washup of competition there is very little price differentiation in it i am thinking i will still try 2D as they deserve the chance to impress as the only reason we are (potentially) heading into a pricewar is because they have put in the good fight, ithat is an effort that deserves recognition.

The biggest issue for me is to get onto a plan with NO contract.

Vodafone right now have a plan that would suit me with a free phone but Im not signing up to anything for 24 months...

But even if all the prices are similar acros all 3 networks I think (I Hope) 2 Degrees will have better systems and a better call Centre than Vodafone.

I don't care how much Vfone and Telecom try and undercut 2 degrees. It has suited both incumbents to rip off their mobile and fixed line customers for years. Prices will only come down with strong competition hence I shall be moving all my mobile business to 2 degrees when they launch.

I'm pretty certain that I will be moving to 2Degrees when they launch next week.

Being a very loyal Vodafone customer, for nearly 5 years now, I think its time for me to move on...

Wait and see, I'll have to convince my mates to switch with me witch would be a mission in its own. But I'm sure they will follow if txts are rediculously cheap for on-network/off-network (I'm hoping something close to the rest of the world at like 0.25c/0.5c a txt. Not expecting it though but it would be nice though.) ATM, Vodafone is fine for me, expensive but I dont think 2D would do much better because NZ is expensive anyways.

Realistically, how often have you swapped mobile providers in the last five years?

How often have you called their call centre?

All valid points, but you do need to take into account how often both of your points actually affect you.

Probably much less than he wanted to considering he would've been locked into a 2 year contract each time.

I've swapped from vodafone to telecom and back again in the last 5-6 years, and dependent on who's got the better deal going on in September when my plan expires it's pretty likely I'll be swapping again :)

I'm keen for a change to be honest.

I'd only change if the prices are cheaper and I don't have to go on a 24 month contract.

With a cheap enough data plan I'd even consider buying a shiny new iPhone (and don't say I won't go through 250mb a month ;)

Not having a contract will be most important over the next few months if a much-hoped for price war is to start.

I doubt there will be much pricing advantage after 2Degrees launches - I expect the incumbents to try to match them.

Perhaps the bigger question is: will prices drop across the market because of the addition of a network? If so, then nobody can afford to let 2Degrees go bust because otherwise prices will return to current levels.

Based on this, I plan to move to 2Degrees if their plans are competitive AND market pricing has come down. Heck I may even snub more attractive offers from the big two if they look like anticompetitive loss leaders.
