I've been with Slingshot for under a month and this is the second major outage they have had.

Over the past 24 hours, various websites have been unaccessable (google, powershop, gmail and trademe to name a few)

Why does Slingshot even bother having a network status page if they never update it? I don't see the point.... can someone explain?

Having a network status page on your website is a good advertisment to potential new customers. Having it showing problems at anytime will be seen by these potential customers and defer them from signing up.

Some of the australian ISP's are doing interesting things in the customer support space.  Internode has it's call queue and wait time online publicly available online here and Exetel has their total bandwidth usage graphs publicy available online here

More importantly,
Whats the use of having one if you cant access the internet, to check the website why you're internet isn't working to begin with..

I never find myself looking at the network status pages anymore.

because people have alternate connections to check it on? If the net goes out, I will fire up the 3g connection and have a look and check the usual places that the public whine about things to see if its just me or not. I have reasons for not wanting to call slingshot myself, valuing my sanity is the major...

Also if it's an international routing or performance problem you can still get to the Slingshot status page fine. Their forums are a better indication of the real status anyway.
