So someone here received a retail 2 Degrees SIM card, and made some calls and TXTs (call was off-net).

Around 89c/min for the calls.

20c for the TXTs

Now I'm going to give 2 Degrees the benefit of the doubt here - what are the chances that:

a) This is the expected billing prior to launch, and that the launch prices will change "at launch"?

or b) We are indeed going to have three different flavours of the same plans?

Probably A.
I think 2degrees would have expected something to leak out, so why not have phoney pricing before the official launch to put the competition off the scent, so to speak.

Or just B.

To me it would seem real pricing is not available until launch. It was going to happen that SIM cards would get around before launch. So now you can get on network but still can't get the pricing structure.If pricing ain't better than the other networks they won't last the year and they must know that by now!

I would put my money with Zonic here. Anyone who has a 2d simcard in their phone now is being redirected and charged from Voda but come next Wednesday you will then be charged by 2d at their prices

What redirected to vodafone and getting charged are you folks kidding us? why would vodafone do 2d billing with there SIMs on there network with national roaming call sms data mms is still rated by 2d.

I would say 2d are doing their own billing, and EITHER:

A: Billing at similar rates to others until they announce their competitive marketing info at launch.

OR

B: Are doomed to face oblivion.

OR

C: The rumour is part of a FUD campaign.

There was an article on stuff recently, someone from 2d commented that they thought expectations around pricing were too optomistic and they hoped that customers wouldn't be too disapointed. (or something very similar).

So reading between the lines I would say pricing is going to be similar to the current telcos.

If you watch the main ad, it talks about having:

a) no contracts, "hope we get porridge"
b) simple pricing, "more difficult to decipher than the da vinci code"
c) no "ruthlessly selecting groups of mates".

It actually says nothing about lower pricing.

Of course this might tunr out to be different from what they come out with, but noone really knows at this stage

It did say "keeping you, your friends and your money closer together" which could be interpreted as meaning lower prices.

Remember when the iPhone was introduced and they had promised good deals and how shocked we were to find out nz was one of the most expensive countries in the world to own an iPhone?

I don't see why people are thinking 2d are going to be everyone's best mate and offer cheap pricing. They are a business and will be squeezing every last cent out of customers just like tc and vf. If you think otherwise I think you are being a bit naive.

If they do offer cheaper pricing I doubt it will be by much and only just enough to pull customers from other telcos.

mattie47: A friend who works at Count Down said that some of the packaging info they received (today) said Calling will be 49c per min calling and 9c txt (to any network).
