The advert for the chinwag promo on www.2degreesmobile.co.nz currently says:
"We're letting the whole country say hello, for free."
Clearly that is referring to saying "hello" via their mobile network (since just saying hello to someone next to you is already free, you hardly need anyone to "let" you do it)
We know they are restricting the Chinwag sims to 50,000 and that each person gets $5 of credit which they can use to say "hello"
There are around 4.3m people in NZ. this means that the 50,000 people with the chinwag sims would have to be able to call over 4.25m people altogether, or around 85 people each, in order that the whole of NZ can say "hello" for free on 2degrees as per the advert.
This means that the $5 of credit each person gets must be enough for 85 minutes of call time, to call those 85 people for less than a minute each.
(Assumption: 2d bill in a similar way to other networks, insofar as any call lasting less than 1minute is rounded up and charged for 1 minute.)
this means that, if my assumptions are correct about billing, the price per minute must be, at the most, 5.9c per minute, to any network.
If the price was any more than that, then there would not be enough credit for the whole of Nz to say "hello" on their network.
feel free to correct me if I have made any mathematical or logical errors.
(don't take this too seriously, I don't really think that is what the price is going to be, just a bit of amusing silly deductive logic)
