Well the moment that we've all been waiting for is here.
There has been a lot of chatter on the site over the past months. We've stayed pretty quiet, but now it is time to reveal all.
We are excited to able to announce on Geekzone our 'Pay Now', no contract offer.

It costs 44c a minute (or part minute) to call any New Zealand mobile or landline. And it costs 9c to text any mobile in NZ. The exact same rates apply to mobiles and landlines in our top 21 countries which include Australia, the UK, China and USA. These rates are to anyone at anytime.

Data costs $0.50c per MB. We've got a GPRS network with EDGE support in the main metros.
You can top up in all the usual ways, online through the website or by buying a voucher from your local dairy. Minimum top up is $20 and credit is valid for 365 days. Oh, and it's 100% free to call our team in NZ 24x7.

Great call pricing, not so sure on the data pricing or the lack of a $10 text equivilent. (Is it really that much more expensive to provide 2.5G than ADSL? ) Even 300-400 texts to any network for $10 would be fine.

I like that we will be able to view our usage and reciepts online, it's crazy how the other networks try to hide what they are charging your for.

I am so guttered that you do not have data or a $10 text plan. People are not callers they are texters. So disappointed. If a TXT2000 or better is released then I will definately switch.

Yeah but most of new zealand are texters. Not because they dont like to call but because texting is easier and more discreet.

I think its not a good idea not to release a text plan

I disagree. A small % of the NZ market are hardcore TXTers that don't make any voice calls. A larger percentage of the market does actually use voice calling and has been annoyed at paying high call rates for voice calling.

Believe it or not there are people that do actually use their phones for voice calls! :-)

Well, really surprised by the 50% reduction in calling and texting. Will be buying a sim but won't use it as a main number due to VF's Bestmate.

Most of NZ are texters coz calling is so expensive. Now it is getting cheaper. Stop complaining.. if you are into texting then im sure they will come out with something similar or if they don't stick to Vodafone as they might drop prices as well.

This is terrrific stuff! I wish the data was a bit more reasonable though.

I'm going to switch our entire family. Can you use one credit card to top up multiple mobiles?

Big reveal was a bit disappointing - we're still switching (would do at same price to get away from Voda), but lack of post-paid option and crappy data pricing means it might be a while.

Also don't fancy chucking out our Blackberries and upgrading all our handsets to switch.

Dilemmas.

C'mon 2Degrees - enough of the secrecy... let's have some dates! When can we expect post-pay? Any plans to offer a Blackberry service?

Like Damian F I too will be switching, however i will be waiting for contracts to become available and also the ability to add data as a bundle to your contract.

The pricing is excellent but the casual data use is the killer for me right now. Until a 100mb per month for $10 bundle(a' la Vodafone) comes out i probably will not make the switch.

However, i firmly believe this is just a matter of time!

I salute you for bringing excellent prepay costs to Kiwis!

What does 'or part minute' mean?
Does that mean I only get billed for the part of the minute I use - or the whole minute if I use only part?

a few months back in FEB 09 i had started a discussionc http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=30927

and later in Reply # 198302 i had suggested a few options like

"I suggest -
50 free text straight away when you recharge for the minimum 20$.
give small packages - like 1000 txt for 2$. there are so many ppl out der who would just want to msg jus for conveying small msgs now and then. not for hardcore texters. they dont have to commit to 10$.
increase txt2000 to txt5000 to make it equivalent to above - so that the cost remains the same.
i think these small steps will come a long way to grab more customers. you could also see in this way - customers who are not currently on txt2K will want to give txting a try for just 2$, and once they get the hang of it they will txt more and eventually touching the target of 10$. now imagine this multiplied by the number of new customers doing the same. "

i dunno if 2 degrees was inspired by my posts or if someone on geekzone is working there but its good to see that what i kinda pointed at is slowly coming true..
