Stay Vodafone or Telecom if you want them.

2degrees have aggressively pushed for such heavily discounted on network deals to be outlawed. To go and offer them would be nothing but hypocritical.

your comment does not make any sense. in business you have to compete to win the customers. good on 2 degrees to reduce the price lower than vf/telecom. what i am asking is cheap calls intra network. at the moment i have to keep paying $20 a month to get the discount rate of 0.22c/min intra-network. this is worst than having to pay $6 per month for bestmate/my favorites - with UNLIMITED minutes

With respect, perhaps you are not the sort of customer they want?

2 degrees have made a big deal out of simple calling plans, not having to choose your best-mates, no contracts etc etc ... you've seen the Rhys Darby ads ... so why would they announce plans that go back on that?  Why are people surprised by the announcement, it should have been clear (and was) where they would pitch the launch.  What wasn't clear was how heavily they would undercut Vf and Telecom.

Will be interesting to see if they respond.  I suspect they will sit pat and wait to see what the churn is like for a couple of months first ... let Vf keep all the unprofitable, low revenue best-mates customers ...

No, if you watch 2Degree's ads on TV, they mock the Best Mate option.
So basically they will never bring in this deal.

It may be deemed hypocritical but in reality it may become a major sticking point for their target market. Would it not be in 2D's best interests to encourage on-net calling in volume? Have your cake and eat it too?

My wife forked out full RRP for her new XT phone so she could obtain an open term contract assuming a possible migration across to 2D, I am without contract on CDMA in preperation also but no 2D favorites will keep us with Telecom at this stage

Bryony/2 Degrees

PLEASE out bring One Degree (your equivalent of best mates Wink).

Boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wifes/mistresses around the country REALLY need this before seriously considering a move to 2 Degrees Frown

most likley they are already cutting margins pretty fine with the pricing as it is, I doubt they will be able to afford a loss leader such as Best Mates or equivalent on top of that.

Even if you only allowed a SINGLE best mate, that would be enough for many of us to jump exclusively to 2DM.

As it stands I am probably going to end up with 2 phones which is one of the things people were hoping they wouldn't have to do any more.

Why should networks offer dirt cheap unlimited on network calling?

I (along with a lot ofother people) would far prefer to have reasonably priced calls to anybody on any network at any time we want.

Because to coin a term, I'd like the "freedom" to contact a close family member as much as I like for a fixed cost. Surely that's not mutually exclusive to reasonable pricing for other calls.

And you choose the network that best suits your requirements. 2degrees isn't the one for you, quite clearly.

You've got a choice of networks that provide a variety of options.

Yep, choose in what way you pay a lot of money for your mobile costs.

Funny thing is, that 2 degrees is ideally suited to the EXTREME light usage I've been accustomed to using - less than $40 per year.

It offers me excellent pricing for my $40 per year.

And yet I'm quite prepared to spend more if I see value. Give me a single "best mate" that I can call a family member with and I'm completely sold. Otherwise I'll just sit there receiving calls for $20-40 per year and 2 degrees is hardly better off.

I'm pretty much leaning to using my iPhone on XT and having a backup Nokia for very occasional voice on 2 degrees = less potential revenue for my preferred provider right now.

There is a simple reason why 2degrees hasn't offered a Bestmates/Favourites offer....

They don't have their own entire network!!

If they charged you $6 to add a number on 2degrees to call as much as you wanted and you called them for hours while roaming on Vodafones network, 2degrees would obviously be charged by Vodafone a per minute rate which means they couldn't offer unlimited calling for a fixed price.

If 2degrees had their very own nation wide network (like telecom and vodafone) then they could easily offer a bestmate service, but they don't and they have to pay per minute while roaming, so this just isn't possible.
