It seems to me the magic rewards are weighted against putting a large balance on your account.
By this I mean that the free texts appear to be proportional to the amount of funds you put on, so there is no incentive to topup with a larger amunt.
Coupled with this is the month of cheaper calls you get when you topup, and it seems that 2degrees are shooting themselves in the foot.
By not rewarding those people who topup a larger amount with anything more than those who do a smaller amount, then they appear to be foregoing the opportunity to have their customers keeping unused money in their accounts.

Or have I missed something here?

They are keeping things simple, and rewarding everyone the same regardless. About the only smart move I can see from them so far.

I'd say it's the opposite, rewarding the lower topups more.  Sure, the text incentive is proportional to the topup amount, but the value of the calls saving reduces the more you topup.

You're better off topping up 2 x $20 (with one partway through the month) than you are topping up $40 at the start of the month.

I am surprised that a $100 topup only gives you 500 free TXTs (ie. same accrue rate as 5 x $20 topups).

But otherwise all good for those that can afford to use this much.
