It occured to me that the easiest way to find out the market share of 2 degrees is just to ask people who sell prepay topups.  Obviously, at the moment probably only one in 20 or so will be for 2 degrees, but that will change.  So does anyone work in one?

Way too early to guesstimate market share imo.

Way way too early.

Maybe if you asked this question 2 days ago, I could have given you the answer, 0%.

And I can't imagine anyone on this site working for a dairy to be honest.

Credit card topups anyone?

Not to be discriminatory but dairy users are hardly going to be representative of the population as a whole.

This isn't quite what you wanted, but a friend that works at DSE told me that 2d SIMs are flying off the shelves.

That is cool but probably expected. You wouldn't expect XT or VF SIMs to "fly off the shelf" given they are established, while 2 deg is a new player.

I just hope enough people keep using the SIMs because at $2 with $2 loaded, they are cheap enough to "buy and try" without any real commitment to the network. $30 for a $10 loaded SIM commits a whole lot more and means most people would have decided upon that network before buying (not saying that all of DSE SIM sales are from "testers" of course).

Talking to me?

Someone hears about the new 2 degrees network and they have a Vodafone phone. They want to check it out. It only costs $2 and they get $2 worth of calls. They are not committed as they haven't really paid for the SIM as such as they get $2 calling. Don't like it? Throw it away.

Someone has a 2 degrees phone and considers a VF switch. $30 for $10. Meaning that if it doesn't work out, they are stung $10. Therefore they need to be more sure that VF is for them before buying the SIM pack.

I usually use the asb atm to do my vodafone topups rather then get a voucher that I have to then type into the phone. whereas I buy telecom vouchers and text them in since the atm doesnt want to do telecom in the same way. If you asked the dairys that would skew it in the direction of telecom.

Profit margin is pretty low selling XT, VF or 2D Topup's. Still getting them at cost price is win win win.

Do whatever you want to do man.
