In response to 2degrees email...

No body stole my mail. Like many thousands of others I registered in good faith early with the expectation as per your advertising that the SIM would arrive in time for me to test and change my number to hopefully match my existing number. Alas these early promises did not eventuate.

I then bought a $2 SIM, tested it and bought a $20 top up. Registering and changing the number as promised only seemed to work long enough for the scalpers to obtain numbers to sell on Trademe.

I have my free SIM (UNUSED) and like others await in hope that something may go right soon.

My expectation is that the early registration free   SIM people have their chance to change their number first .
Are you going to do the right thing?
cheers,
George

Note they never guaranteed everyone will get their free SIM (read the terms when you sign up). It was said there is a limited number of them. But I agree with what you are saying.

The issue I see is people don't want to use their "temp" 022 number (prevent confusion) so they will loose their free air time (it expires after 1 month I believe). That is where 2D should "do the right thing" and extend everyone's free air time by however long it takes to sort out the web site.

You can never have enough Volvos!

The airtime lasts until October, doesn't it? I think most people are upset because they can't get a number of their choosing after "being promised" they would. Would you also be upset if all numbers were available and someone beat you to the number you wanted? You don't deserve a particular number any more than anyone else. If you don't like what 2 degrees are doing, don't switch to them. Worse case, you're out $2, maybe less if you got the free chinwag sims.

I expected everyone to have an equal chance . Whether the SIM was free or bought first in gets the number of choice. Delivering SIMs days later is hardly fair tp people who registered inyerest early.
I bought a SIM the day before launch and had it activated late that night. Sign in early (6 AM)on launch day turned to mush and was turned of soon after. If my number had gone it would have been my bad luck.  George

But when SIMs are only $2, if it was that important, go out and buy one?

I don't see the issue myself.

They said you would get a free SIM (and they didn't guarantee it).
They didn't say when you would get it (and they certainly didn't guarantee that).
They didn't say you would be able to change your number to whatever you want, whenever you wanted (and they didn't guarantee it - I will admit that their statements have been very open-ended and were badly worded. Their statements did not imply that they would drip feed the number range).

They didn't guarantee anything, and it's unfortunate that they can't guarantee anything. But that's ok really.

The fact is there is time to test it out - the free credit doesn't expire for ages yet. I know it's disappointing that you can't change your number right now, right away. I'd like to change mine too. But unfortunately, that's life. They had a security issue which they are now fixing. Better than late than never.

Seriously though. If you can't get a number that's not going to be the end of the world, is it?

That is what I thought, my SIM hasn't come yet (got TXT last Tuesday). I am hoping that I will get the number that I want but it isn't the end of the world if I dont get it.

Just for those who don't know, you can in fact change your number, you can choose presently from the 0220 range. Give the Call Centre a call, they will do it for you until the site is back up.

i think it is important to realize we are all different. Obviously having a number matching 022 number with my PSTN number is important to me and could be the reason to switch my mobile provider. Seeing earlier they have 10 million numbers gaves me hope of doing this.
