For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life.  What are the chances of that like?

In the article;

"Telecommunications Users' Association boss Ernie Newman, when told about Biddle's posts, told Computerworld he "hasn't delved into that kind of analysis", and referred us to 2 Degrees."

Come on Ernie, it's not rocket science! Steve's graphs and maths are pretty obvious.

Good to see stuff.co.nz with a pretty well balanced and unbiased article - I'm starting to feel this is a rare thing among NZ's fourth estate.

That's because this article was first published on Computerworld yesterday and republished by Stuff - both Fairfax publications.

I agree totally.  For the TUANZ boss to not have 'delved into that kind of analysis' just gives the impression that he is on the bandwagon without doing his due dilligence.  SURELY someone in his position should be better informed of what he is supporting.  TUANZ's credibility has taken a hit in my books....

I concur, I dont think any of the organisations that supported the "drop the rate, mate" thing did any research at all, they just went yep lower MTR's = Lower pricing.

So Sbiddle writes a blog entry and some "journalist" takes it to 2 Degrees for comment and then publishes it and takes all (or at least partial) the credit! for doing 2 minutes work!

Is it just me or is this another example of the useless journalism in this country now?

Trawl thru blogs and forums and just publish anything interesting without really much extra input or research at all...

The amount of material they "steal" from this forum as well is just amazing!

Surely sooner or later some money will have to change hands...

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

I think Rob did a good job of creating a story out of the post - and Computerworld even did a good job of giving link love to Sbiddle's blog here on Geekzone.

When the piece showed up on Stuff though they removed the link - Stuff is really bad at this, they never give link to anyone.

As for trawling blogs and forums, everyone does. They are looking for stories. When attribution comes is something you can take more easily than someone that grab a story and runs with it as theirs.
