One way i've noticed 2Degrees are trying to get that little each money from you is when you dial a 0800 number it's free, add the 0197 prefix to block caller ID and....... 44c a minute gets deducted.

On my Nokia phone there is a feature where you can stop your caller id being sent in the settings check your phone and see if you have that setting too and that way you shouldn't get that charge.

That to me sounds like a fault.. Best log it, to make sure.

Thats a fault.

There are going to be things like this pop up.

Remember all these new prefixes have to be programmed in manually. Yes they should have done their best to ensure all this was taken care of before launch, but there will unquestionably be things they overlook.

Try to work with them and be patient! I don't think they want to rip anyone off :)

Why do they even support 0197 - thats a BS telecom made up code since their gear was to crap to support *67 which is the landline standard... Should be *31# or #31# (cant recall which is on or off)

Who's gear was crap? The star codes were dropped because PABX systems couldn't cope with *.

Well thats one way to look at it, but since most of the problem pabxs were holdouts from the era when telecom were the only ones who could install them, and that there were also a lot of button phones installed that were pulse dial because of their obsolete crap exchanges that were deployed at the time.

There is _no_ reason to support the made up codes on a GSM network, it just confuses people when they store numbers and find they wont work when roaming, whereas the gsm codes work everywhere.
