I've changed from vodafone to 2degrees and a friend happened to tell me that vodafone are charging her 40cents to sent a text to my 2degrees number. I just sent a text with my old vodafone sim card to my 2degrees number and it cost me 40cents as well. Is anyone else aware of this?

Ooooops, just realised that maybe vodafone are not charging 40cents, the exta 20cents is to check the account balance by texting 777? Funny....I thought it was free to check your account balance with vodafone or am I missing something here? I'm confused!

Confused here too, I regulary cheak my balance using the sim2 menu. It doesn't seem to cost anything.

Checking your account balance by calling 777 or by texting "BAL" to 777 is FREE and always has been.

Be aware that some handsets can send their messages using 8-bit character support, rather than the 7-bit GSM alphabet. 7-bit packing into 8-bit octets allows 160 characters in the 140 byte payload of the SMS message.

If your handset has a feature like "full" character set support, then it may either always or sometimes (depending on what characters you put in the message) switch to 8-bit mode. In that case, obviously you can only send 140 characters per message, not 160. You might actually be sending 2 SMSes without realising.

You can try setting your handset to "normal" or "reduced" or whatever it's other option is for character set support. Odds are you'll barely notice the difference, but you can be sure you'll get the full 160 characters.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

My apologies to Vodafone. Due to a miscalculation on my part and my friends Vodafone was charging correctly.

John... thank you for your offer to help sort it out.
