Title says it all, anyone experiencing this?

I can send to USA, with delay, but not recieve. I can text and recieve UK fine

Texts from quite a few international carriers don't work it seems. 2degrees know this, they just don't publicise it. Apparently they are "tidying up all of those issues"

Are you using a 022 number, or a number you ported from another carrier?

I think you should try to be a bit more specific... ie

Country: (eg USA)
Providor: (eg T-Mobile)
Number trying to text:

AFAIK they are supposed to have SMS partnering agreements with most countries and they have all been tested successfully pre-launch.

They should work - so if they don't post here or let the helpdesk know about it.

Also having a ported or a native 022 number should not make a difference.

In my experience it most certainly does make a difference.

My wife was recently in the US, and I wasn't receiving texts from her, or from work colleagues in the US. The problem was ultimately tracked down apparently to the database that determines which carrier to send the message to, and the fact that it wasn't being refreshed very frequently at all in the US. It took over 3 weeks before I started receiving messages from US numbers after porting.

Interesting, 3 weeks! My comment was more derived that the agreements are between the carriers, and it shouldn't make a difference, obviously it does for a limited time.

Report it regulary to the 2Degrees helpdesk until resolution... That has worked for most of my problems with them....

Hmm if what jmosen said is correct, then in some cases its going to be the International end thats at fault....

Does anyone know if GSM porting propogation has any sort of standards surrounding it? (like DNS ttl)

The short answer is: it's complicated.

The longer answer involves delivery mechanism (SS7, SMPP, other IP based protocols), hub services vs. direct interconnect, roaming agreements you have, roaming agreements your competitors in the same country have, what network technology is in use at the far end, whether or not there is portability at the far end as well, and a few other things.

Also, if we suspect the problem is at the other end, then really all we can do is ask the other carrier nicely and hope they do something about it.

My wife has the same problem - can't receive txts from USA or Canada (not sure about other countries). Her number was ported from Vodafone about week and a half ago and she started receiving txts from overseas fine. Then on Saturday it all just stopped coming through.

Very frustrating if 2D customers have to go to the other carriers to sort the problem - shouldn't it be up to 2D to ensure all the international carriers are playing together?

I've been nearly 3 weeks now without being able to get texts from Ireland. Apart from saying they know there is a problem with 'a very small amount' of international carriers, 2Degrees have been absolutely no help whatsoever.
