Voipbuster and Voipwise are two of about 20 European companies belonging to Betamax.com which sell cheap web based voip and SMS services. Sending SMS messages to +6422xxxxxxx does not arrive. No problem to Telecom and Vodafone numbers. I am not sure about ported numbers.Skype works but is 3 times the cost. Has anyone tried other Betamax clones or SMS providers?
cheers,
George
I have reported twice to 2degrees...

2degrees don't have the same level of SMS interconnects that Vodafone and Telecom do.

There have also been plenty of issues with SMS's not arriving from some overseas providers including Vodafone UK and AT&T. 2degrees are aware of these issues.

There's probably nothing you can actually do other than reporting it to 2degrees. It's either interconnecting via a network with issues and may work in future or quite simple a case of a network that they do not have an interconnect agreement with which means it will never work.

Have just had a look and it appears they charge EURO30c to deliver a message. That seems quite expensive to me...

Try an NZ based SMS provider like TNZ, or is there an attraction to Betamax I've overlooked?

I can vouch that TNZ can deliver to 2Degrees/Vodafone/Telecom. Not sure about the other SMS providers in NZ.

they charge EURO 3cents not 30 which is about NZ 5cents.
I have many friends in Europe who use Betamax clones so meantime I cant use my 2degrees phone as they wont change.

Thanks. Freecall.com is a Betamax clone. Are you on roaming via Vodafone or direct to 2degrees? I am via Vodafone so there may be a difference.

my 022 phone works OK for other SMS providers so I dont think the phone is faulty (famous last words) so can you PM me your number and I will send you an SMS from both Voipbuster and Voipwise to prove it?

Subject Betamax clones SMS

Hi George,

I've checked and we don't have an interconnection agreement with Betamax.
At the moment the team are focused on interconnection with mobile partners so Betamax will be some time away if they even decide to persue it at all.

Hope that helps with your query.

cheers!
2degrees

my expectations were and still are that 2degrees would compete with equal service to Telecom and Vodafones service. Meantime though it looks like 2degrees 022 numbers are not up to my expectations so I will stick with the status quo. Testing has shown ported numbers to work OK so will look further into porting.

There are a few other posts about this already so I won't go into the details again, but delivery to ported numbers work differently to deliveries to non-ported numbers. Therefore, there are cases where non-ported will work but ported may not, and vice versa.

This is because delivery to a ported number requires cooperation not just from the sender and receiver, but from the number range owner as well.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

This constant lack of ability to have interconnection between parties seems fairly ridiculous in the internet age. I can appreciate why it happens but if your used to being able to plugin to the cloud and everyone being able to reach you without too many dramas I guess it could be hard to accept.

@Zeon Message centers don't live in the cloud, and legal and financial agreements must be met. The 'internet age' doesn't really have a bearing on it.

@GEOMAX If your carrier doesn't have an interconnect agreement, but a ported number works just fine, I would *still* be wary about using a kludge if service is important to you. No one is going to go in to bat for you if you build a house of cards service on the basis that it depends on porting system quirks, and something changes that kills the interconnect (billing issues between the two NZ carriers for example, or even a technical change at anyones end).

Tony,
although I also use Betamax  web2txt services , it is my numerous friends in European and North American countries who virtually have a 100% world wide delivery for SMS's and won't change because a minnow mobile provider  in New Zealand does not work means I won't use my 2degrees phone for txting them. (i dont have any ported numbers but did test some to isolate the problem).
My expectations still are that 2degrees need to match Telecom and Vodafones service to survive.

I reported the problem to Voipbuster help who referred to their Engineering. Today it is working 100%.
