How is it that you know Orcon customers do not use servers based in San Diego?

P.S. The basis of one speedtest, cruddy grammar, and a headbanging emoticon is unlikley to elicit change. Why not give some detailed information about servers you are trying to use, and a series of speedtests at different times (preferably testing speeds against the server in question, not the indicative-only speedtest.net service).

I personally dont trust Speedtests results all the time.

Try running it on an older machine with 8mb video - bet your results will come out a LOT slower than what it does on a modern machine.....

Hey yeah your right so I changed it and just posted the speeds, My question is why cant we get the same or similar speeds too Los Angeles?

My pings are fine its just the download speeds to Los Angeles that is very slow. LA is where the sites that I frequent alot and interact with friends Via webcam.

I just got off the phone with customer service and they are working on the way the traffic is being routed, so sounds like its going to get fixed :)

The internet is a best effort shared network, we will punt your packets upstream and hope they get there in a reasonable amount of time and vice versa.

Speedtests really don't show much, other than you get good/bad speed to that ISP who is hosting the speedtest.

They could have congestion at the time you did the test, the pipes in the middle could be full. The list goes on.

Do a bunch of speedtests from all around and take the average. That should give you a good idea.

Try doing a speedtest to all the NZ servers and you will notice a difference
Being on Xtra the slowest I've found is the Citylink one in Wellington (since traffic has to go overseas before coming back) and Xnet (which I've put down to congestion)

From Xtra to Xnet would go over expensive national transit links because Telecom don't peer.

From Orcon you should get your Sync rate speed to Xnet

Thanks for all the feedback guys :)

I just posted a thread in appreciation towards Orcons work they do for us.

as i have come too the conclusion that when its hot its hot and when its not its not and thats just the way the cookie crumbles :) and Orcon strive to do there best too meet customer demands.Thats just how kiwi operated business run as us kiwis always strive for that little extra spark.
Orcon will always be number 1 in our books :)

I have found issues witht he X net server too, Try a speed test off a 100 M fiber connection and it tells you that you are on 50 M. Looks like there server is on a 50 M fiber line :(

Need Orocn to get a speed test server...thye have a test site http://www.nzdsl.co.nz/ that termintes in there DC but I can see that the Speed test has been replaced by a speed test.net mini test.

Maby time Orcon applied to speedtest.net to host a server?

Generally speedtest.net only want to have one speedtest site per location.

I'm sure someone else from anther ISP would have gotten in there first, actually I'm pretty sure :)

However I don't really see the relevence, its not a very usefull test and will only ever give you a general idea of what is happening right at the time of the test to a single test site.

ISPs have internal monitoring systems which do the same so they'll know probably before you notice anything or get an issue esculated up high enough for it to be looked at.
