EDGE is (slightly) faster than GPRS. In New Zealand it makes no difference since EDGE is only avaialble through 2 degrees and while a data plan is not available it's just too expensive to use it...

Edge should be up to 3-4 times the speed of gprs, while 150-200kbps doesn't sound that flash I still think it would be a good upgrade for vodafone.

I've been reading that voda are adding edge in oz

Many handsets that support GPRS also support EDGE

Nokia has a solution to make EDGE run up to 500k but the cost of the licence is out of this world

While most of their network is EDGE compatible now GSM/EDGE is now virtually obsolete since they now have a nationwide 3G network.

I agree with you, but for those with a device that only supports 2100/850 it would be nice to fall back to an acceptable speed, remember the old days of 128/256 so called broadband ;)

Ideal if you have an iphone for example that supports edge but not the voda 900 network.

And most inbound roaming revenue is made by GSM technology.

Personally id love vodafone to utilise EDGE. Try getting 3G speeds on the top of Mt Hutt when uploading photos!! The increase in fall-back speed would be muchly appreciated!

Vodafone have commerical agreements with 2degrees

Vodafone is spending the money on UMTS
