Decided to do some hard RS downloading yesterday. Bought a Premium account, started download yesterday morning all was well, getting 500kbps solid. Boom comes 12pm in the afternoon and my 8boom* my downloads die. It starts by getting slow and slower and after 30 minutes I'm getting 10kbps and then soon after the download just stops. I try restarting the download manager (I've tried several diffrent ones). And same thing again today, as soon as the afternoon comes the speed dies and then my downloads die all together.
As a matter of fact its so bad, I can't even open rapidshare's website. The page just wont load at all GG orcon. :(

Sigh what a waste of money when Orcon only let me download at like 6am.

Yes, both p2p file sharing programs as well as some file hosting websites are deprioritised. Basically if someone else is watching a video on youtube, his data has priority over your download.

You can get around it by scheduling your downloads during off peak times.

That would be awsome, except I'm using a new gaming computer and this thing eats power like there is no tommorow. I really can't justify running the pc when I'm not actually on it working as well.

Most new hardware will automatically underclock itself when idle. I think Vista/Win7 has very good power management utilities as well which you can look into.

I'll just wait till 11pm tonight, seems fair for users of p2p but not fair for gamers!!!!!!!!

The other way to get around it is to use a proxy service. Someone here recommended a proxy back when the government regulations were being pushed through (the 1 illegal DL your disconnected). I cant remember what its called though ;)

Check your computers bios setup. There will be an option to boot at a specific time.

I have a pc that switches itself on at midnight to do some maintanence tasks at a client's office then shuts itself down at 1am.

You can stream your rapidshare downloads through this site www.filetwister.com. It should work with Orcon and is usually faster than rapidshare.

Ok, fair enough they shape. Getting 10KB/s d/l right now.

Does anyone know the window when the shaping gets turned off?

Otherwise it might have to be telecom's big time plan that is not shapped between 2am-9am.. all 7 hours of it.

10.30pm I believe is when its turned off, been a few months away from them now. And remember your speeds wont automatically go back to normal, you have to pause and the play the DL's (assuming you use a DL manager like flashget)
