I checked one of your threads on here already reporting this same issue which has been locked hence I had to open a new one. I can receive texts from my friend using the 2 degrees network, I am located in ireland on the Vodafone network. Yet, when I reply to her (for which I get charged) she does not receive the text at all . Is this a known problem? By what I've read in the previous thread it was meant to be solved back in August, can someone please advise?

Have you let the helpdesk know about this?

Although Vodafone Ireland is not on that list, it does seem rather odd that 2DM would not support text on Vodafone Ireland.

Hey slippers, yea I sent the helpdesk an e-mail today and awaiting a response. My friend said she checked it with 2 degrees and they told her it was a problem from my side i.e. Vodafone Ireland, this I find hard to believe seeing as it isn't giving me an error message when I text her, it charges me for the text!

Thanks Andrew, looks like Vodafone Ireland aren't on that list, very strange! Vodafone is like the largest network in Ireland whereas O2 would be second largest and Meteor third....can't understand why 2Degrees don't support Vodafone network.

It isn't an issue of 2degrees not supporting Vodafone Ireland. You are receiving texts sent from 2degrees to Vodafone Ireland. Its a case of Vodafone Ireland not supporting 2degrees, they are not routing the messages through to 2degrees. The fact they have charged you means nothing, they probably charge you even if you send a message to a non-existant number. Thats why you should complain to Vodafone Ireland, especially as they HAVE charged you.

Stands to reason that Vodafone Ireland (and globally) are not going to run around to support a new competitor to Vodafone NZ unless thier customers complain...

This is a known issue, and it doesn't look like it will be fixed any time soon, if at all.

At the end of the day, every other mobile provider in NZ can receive texts from Vodafone Ireland and UK, so you're better off advising your friend to join one of those networks.

2 Degrees just blame VF Ireland, and vice versa.

We had this problem back in August, and nope, it hasn't been solved yet. We can txt a friend on the Rogers network in Canada but they can't txt back. Funny thing is the Rogers network appears on the 2D list of overseas networks that are known to be all connected up. The person in Canada has contacted her network provider several times but they just say they've never even heard of 2degrees!

Ok, just FYI there are three three types of SMS interconnect agreements.

1) Two way - these carriers are TXT each other, backwards and forwards with no limitations, such as what we experience between the three New Zealand networks, Telecom, VF and 2D.

2) One way with reply path - You can send a TXT message to this carrier, and that carrier can reply to your messages with in a set time frame, but not send a message out of the blue.

3) One way only - You can send a message to that carrier, but they can not reply or send a message out of the blue.

Bu the sounds of it Rogers are not allowing their customers to send to 2D, for what ever reason, however you may find that your friend can reply to that TXT message.

2D, or any other NZ carrier, can't control what Rogers choose to implement, and given the relativity small size of New Zealand, and the TXT traffic that would flow towards Canada, New Zealand based carriers would have little or next to no say in the matter.

One word... Money.

Is the number you are using a 2Degrees number (022) or a Outported 021/027 number??

All of the international mobile providers need to update their routing tables to support the new provider on the block. I am sure if 2Deg had a massive war chest of money it could contact each mobile company worldwide and get them to add the routing into their tables for 2Degrees.

Worth getting both people to complain to their respective mobile providers, and keep on bugging them until they get service, rather than posting here ;)

+1 and if they won't do anything, then perhaps you should look at switching carriers if this is important to you.
