I wonder if anyone from Snap could tell me if the pricing for Snap home phone line in Wellington is the lower price through out Wellington, on enquiry?

Reason why I ask is, the MIL lives in Porirua, there is no Telecom competition, yet she got the phone line at the cheaper rate. However, MY mother lives in Maungarakei and Snap have refused to give her the phone line at the cheaper rate. Both suburbs do not have TCL provided services, but both have cheaper TNZ phone lines. Ie cheaper than Snap will do.

My mother sent an email to Snap, on Tuesday, despite me telling her to talk to someone, and not email, and is still waiting on a reply or acknowledgement.

So to any Snap employees, what is the deal here?

Cheers

andrewcnz, I already know whats on their website, hence my query to Snap.
They have provided a cheaper line to the MIL where she is not in one of the suburbs listed above, so I want to know if they do it for others.

Yeah I'm in a similar boat, western hills of Lower Hutt and they didn't give me the discount, even though Telecom does. Not really sure who they're trying to compete with? Just Telstraclear's cable network? Seems a bit shortsighted to me.

I very nearly just went with Telecom but I wanted to give one more non Telecom ISP a go, and well, I was still saving money over my previous arrangement (Telecom Phone + Xnet ISP).

That was the reason why I suggested them to my mother too, she lives in 'lower hutt' ie it is a suburb of lower hutt. So therefore their pricing should apply.
Unfortunately, this is another negative experience I have had with Snap, and will probably avoid them in the future.

As per NZPost

Howdy,

I'll have a look at this, a quick ask around the helpdesk turned up that there is a tool that directly queries the billing for an address and returns Zone 1 or Zone 2 - this information directly relates to which rate the line is charged at. It seems that there are a few more zones excluded from the $37 pricing that what is quoted on the website - I'll get this addressed tomorrow to try and avoid more confusion.

If anyone would like me to check their zoning, please send me a PM with your physical address and phone number and I'll get back to you.

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

After waiting several days for a phone call back, I have just spoken with someone who confirmed the above. I guess you (Snap) have changed your policy from April, as the MIL got the zone one rates, despite being in zone two, as you (Snap) wanted her as a customer.

Unfortunately, as my mother was confused by the website, she had signed up and is now paying more than she could elsewhere. So, over the next couple of days, she will decide if she will disconnect, and go to another provider, and pay the 1month + 2nd month (30 day period) + $99 disconnection fee.

Its dissappointing, as snap have been good for the MIL, but why pay more to someone who is not competitive with Telecom.

Our ADSL plans are cheaper than Telecom's, our 3GB offer is $5 cheaper than Telecom's which means the difference in phone+broadband would be around $2, and quickly swing in our favour on plans with more data. Something to keep in mind is our support costs are much larger per customer, your MIL can pick up the phone with any related issue, call us, and is more often than not speaking to a New Zealander in less than 30 seconds (not many of our competitors can claim this!). I dont understand how we could be considered not competitive.

The New Zealand based customer support aspects is one of the main reasons why I signed up with Snap, after having suffered a few calls through Vodafone's hopeless foreign call centre.

The ADSL plans may be competitive on price but are not competitive on performance. Take into account the lack of International bandwidth (or appearance of this due to packet shaping) and Telecom look better.
