Recently I went on holiday to Sydney, once I reached the airport at the other end and switched my phone on I got a message from 2Degrees saying "2Degrees wishes you safe travels in Australia" This was followed by the standard calling and txting rates while I was there and also a number to get in contact with them if there was any issues.

That was such a awesome thing to see come through, it really makes me feel like 2Degrees values my custom and is looking after me!

So here is to you 2Degrees! Keep up the great work!

I got the same when visiting the USA. Nicely done.
No welcome back home message though when I returned.

This is standard practice on most GSM/WCDMA networks when you roam. Vodafone and Telecom have always done this as well.

Yeah, I will have to disagree with you there. My wife's phone which is on a plan with Vodafone never recieved a message when we were over there, nor did she receive one when we went to the Gold Coast last year. Not sure about Telecom as I haven't roamed with them before.

Vodafone NZ have sent roaming Welcome messages for years is your wife's number on the do not send promotional SMS list

I have received Vodafone messages in the past, and the same happens with Telecom XT when roaming.

Whoops, my bad. Sorry guys.

My wife's number isn't on any don't send promotional SMS list that I know of, she gets other messages from Vodafone. Oh well might have been a hicup there.

Never got any messages from Vodafone on my prepay connection when I arrived in Brisbane two months ago.

Apparently I remember trivial things easily, because I recall getting a welcome message from Vodafone (prepay) when I went to Sydney in 2005. It's not a new service :)

When I went to Sydney in September, I took both a vodafone and 2d phone, received those messages on both.

I have always had a CDMA Telecom phone so I haven't roamed before, so its quite a new thing for me! :)

Interesting though, that some people have had messages and others haven't?

When Ozz had CDMA we used to get the welcome message on that as well when we went across..

When I took a Vodem to Fiji I got the vodafone welcome message.

When I took my Telecom to Sydney / Singapore / Thailand and the UK I got welcome messages as well.

I only got the rates when arriving in Australia using a vodafone prepaid sim at the end of last year. No welcome message. Same with the 3 others I was travelling with.
