It means youre currently running off the local exchange rather than a cabinet. Downside to this is if youre on the outer limits of the exchange your speeds may not be as good as if you were closer or running off a cabinet.
On the right side of the map, it should show you your cabinet schedule etc - are you due for one or not scheduled at all ?

@XPD

Thanks says im not scheduled at all?

Im about a kilometre form the exchange as my line attentuation is about 18, and my local sync speed is about 22000mbs

Should i be worried about not getting a cabinet in the future?

Nope, you are close enough to have a great sync speed already.

The purpose of the cabinets is to reduce the line distance for people who are further out from the exchange so that 80% of house can get > 10Mbit.

You are pretty lucky to sync at 22Mbit, many people are stuck on <5Mbit due to distance from the exchange (no cabinets installed in their area yet) etc.

Yea im in a similar position the place I am living at at the moment will only connect at a max of 5.5mbit - which sucks because when I was out in Panmure I was getting 22mbit + - anyone have any ideas why this might be the case for me? It looks like I am super close to a cabinet compared to when I lived in Panmure. Im on Orcon Purple + - here are my two wholesale maps.

Yeah if you're connected to a cabinet you should be on Telecom wholesale gear in the cabinet rather than Orcon gear at the exchange.

Those image links are broken for me, what are the modem stats (Signal to Noise and Line Attenuation etc).

I'm in Birdwood Cresent in Parnell which I think is off the Mayoral Drive exchange and am only getting 5.5 Megabits, but we also are scheduled in October 2011 to get a cabinet.

Seems so long away...Weird because there is already a cabinet up the road. Hmmmmmm.

Make sure you are on a max/max connection or you will not get ADSL2 speeds, limited upload speeds limit the down load to 4-6M.

I noticed where i live on Papatoetoe that a new cabinet sprung up last week about 250 meters from home. How long does it take to install the gear and connect?? I see it's still scheduled for April 2010 on the map

@old3eyes,

Hard to say, its kinda stabbing in the dark. The scheduled date is not always correct and we find its usually before the published date.

You will know when your net drops off or you see the chorus vans at the cabinet for a few houses.
