Hi,

I am with orcon and my interent works normally until saturday last week, after ringing orcon and some testing I found out that i could only connect with ADSL 1 and ADSL 2 modulation and not ADSL 2+. I am using the modem that came with orcon RTA1320. My connection to my ADSL jack is a splitter so i dont use any filters.

ADSL 1 and ADSL 2 connects normally and can surf the internet however with ADSL 2+ modulation set i can connect and can ping with about 25% packet loss but i cant load webpages. However it will sometimes load the top of the page only.

Is anyone having a similar issue? Also any idea what the problem might be, they have tried a line test and found one of my phone was faulty but after removing that phone the problem still exists, also my adsl profile was tweeked around but even at the "safest" one for ADSL 2+ the problem is still the same. ASDL 2 and ADSL 1 works perfectly though.

Hi Canto, can you post your modems ADSL line stats page, and do you have any idea how far you are from the exchange or cabinet, check at the following link to get an idea.

Hi, at 34dB (approx 2.4km of cable) you are pretty much past the point of getting any use out of the 1.1-2.2MHz spectrum used by 2+ and so are better off letting it just sync at ADSL2 or ADSL1 which is what the modem is tyring to do without you forcing it.

ADSL2+ can provide pretty much full speed (16-22Mb/s) out to around 1km, between 1-2km it starts to tapper off down to around 10-12Mb/s, and by 2km or so the upper spectrum is no longer reliably usable so it should pull back to ADSL2 or 1. Even at ADSL1 on 34dB you should still be able to get a 7.6Mb/s sync and reliably so there is little speed advantage in the 10Mb/s on 2+ you are trying to achieve.

It just that it really strange that it used to work for about 1 year then it just stopped working last week. The modem tries to sync at ADSL 2+ i have to force it to sync at ADSL 1 or 2 or else it wont connect correctly. Thanks for the info maybe my line quality has degraded or something.

Hi, also could be your modem, those Dynalinks are good modems, however have a reputation that is worldwide for not ventilating well enough, the end result is that overtime there performance degrades to a point where they stop working all together, but before that there performance drops. I suggest you get a new modem, the DSE XH9949 is a good option, same chipset, but better case design that does not suffer from heat issues.

Yes a happy normal work DSL circuit has no or only 1 or 2 errors a day.

Hi, a Broadcom DSL chipset matched with a Atheros Wireless chip is a good option. But which ones do that is another thing. Check out TPlink gear, they all run Broadcom DSL but as to what wireless I am not too sure.

Another thing to remember about N wireless is that the draft is still that although pretty much settled, but there is a wide variety of capability from product to product depending on what MiMo setup it has that can effect its performance. Personally I would go with wired connections to streaming devices (ie NAS, main PCs, media servers/clients) and stay with 802.11g for basic wireless activity, ie laptops/netbook/PDA browsing and email etc.

If you are real serious about N wireless then just go with the basic wired XH9949 and match it up with one of the new ubnt N series APs, PM me if you want details.

Hi there I am new to this website and this is my first post but I thought I should reg and join.

Anyways to the point! I'm having this problem I had no internet for 2 weeks due to the fact that no one from orcon told me that I was now running on ADSL only not ADSL2+ and that their awesome SX763 known as the homehub failed to automatically switch to ADSL and didn't connect for 2 Fu*&@ weeks! I was pissed! I notice now I get slower uploading speeds and I have noticed a drop in ping with my games. It was due to their cabinisation they said it doesn't support adsl2+ . I noticed before hand I had 1200kb upload and now I can only obtain a max of 800kb. I used to get unstable webpages using adsl2+ while they were doing their cabinersitation process at first and then I lost connection etc etc

Haha yeah the telecom man came over and tried his old modem and it worked me and him were both scratching our head wondering what the hell was going on! Then I call up orcon to find out that orcons homehub so called AUTOMATIC isn't so automatic after all. Pain in the as@! So I had to force it to adsl1

I think they are going to put adsl2+ into the cabinets I think I would love to know myself. I don't remember who I got it from I think I got it from the telecom website. I had experienced some bad customer service too from orcon while I was trying to find out the problem. I feel like I want to change back to telecom now. Funny how I think it was scott bartlet wanted to use an email I sent him I quoted it how I hated telecoms bad customer service and they sent flyers out 'Bowan From Weymouth' :(

And yeap I realised that the cap is due to adsl1 which hurts me alot :(

Hi, all new Telecom Whisper cabinets are ADSL2+ and from around now VDSL2 also. The issue is that if you are on a cabinet but also a Orcon purple network connection then you suffer an issue commonly referred to as mid point injection interference. What this means is that your LLU purple connection is from an Orcon DSLAM at the exchange which may be quite distant from your location. If your line is then cabinetised then that cabinet will be quite close (<2km). Currently LLU vendors (Orcon and Voda) dont have DSLAMs in cabinets, so your signal from the exchange will be significantly degraded by the stronger signals coming from the cabinet. The only solution is to get off the LLU connection and back onto a Telecom Wholesale connection so your service comes from not via the cabinet. You will get much greater connection speeds by doing this.

I belief its not just the orcon purple (no landline) option which has the problem, probably all orcon ADSL 2+ services are currently suffer from this "mid point injection interference" as i am on the silver plan.

Actually yes they will be suffering but I am too even though I am using telecoms cabinet now. At first but im confused from a couple of emails first im onto telecoms network now im onto orcons uba network??? What the hell is UBA? I know im on telecoms network. This is what the email said.

This work has been carried out in order to shorten the length of the copper line that broadband and telephone services are delivered over. Unfortunately, as we have found after investigation you are now getting interference on your line which is causing slower speeds than normal. To rectify this we will move you off of our equipment in the exchange onto the new equipment in the local cabinet.
