Hi,

I've been given a brand new 2 degrees sim card and I am trying to see if it will work in my wife's old phillips alcatel mobile phone, but when i turn the phone on it asks me for the network key.

the instructions that came with the sim card just say to dial 200 and go from there, but i will obviously need the network key first to see if the phone will actually work...

can anyone help me with the network key for 2 degrees?

How old is this phone? It sounds to me it's locked to a network.

I'm guessing you've got a locked handset, some very old BellSouth and early Vodafone prepay handsets were locked.

You'll have no luck finding an unlock code for a ~10 year old phone.

thanks for your replies - yes the phone is about 8? yes old I guess and was on vodafone prepay, but the sim card ran out 4-5 yrs ago as we never topped it up.
my wife has a new phone and i just need something cheap (or free!) to make / receive calls and texts..
I guess i'll take it to a vodafone store and see what a sim csrd will cost..

If the phone is that old I bet the battery life will be poor. Just get a cheap handset to use with your 2degrees SIM - the cheapest one on 2degrees is $79, on Vodafone is $99.

You can get one of these with a $20 sim card from dick smith at the moment, and should be able to find an even cheaper 2degrees phone if you look around a little. (I've seen <$60 2degrees phones advertised lately.)

you could also think about the extra you will pay just to keep that phone... a new VF simcard $30 + Calling/texting = rip off. a New 2d phone/sim = $50-80

Try Warehouse stationery. They are selling the Nokia 1202 for $58. 2D SIM card only costs you $2. If you want to get ripped off pay $30 for a Vodafone prepay SIM.
