Hi Richard,

Thank you for using Slingshot's Online Help.

At the outset I would like to apologise for the late reply to your email. We have been experiencing a higher than usual volume of customer emails lately and are working hard to clear the backlog.

In furtherance to your query I would like to know if you have setup Forward DNS, as we will not be able to setup reverse DNS otherwise. If you have, I would kindly request you to revert to me with the following details so I can action your request:

1.Domain name
2 Static IP address
3.Forward DNS addresses

I hope this helps to resolve your query. If you have any further questions please feel free to respond to this email.

Kind regards,

Slingshot Support

Customer (Richard Malcolm-Smith)
23/03/2010 07.00 PM

I have 203.184.123.123 as a static IP on my home connection.

Can I please have a reverse DNS of home.mydomain.com setup on it? The foward is already done.

Thanks.

Thanks for using online help, your question reference number is [number removed]

You can only edit a post you made within 10min after it was created (or last edited?), recent change on Geekzone to deal with people changing what they had said historically.

It's kind of overkill imo!

Anyway that response is pretty funny, he didn't read your email at all or perhaps they have to follow a script regardless..

MS Word thesaurus?

Maybe they have an automated rule which at the first sign of the words 'reverse' and 'DNS' spits out an automated email as that response was not human... well surly not.

It's a pretty standard feature on most forum software, if you need to legitimately edit posts after the 10 minute window, one of the mods can always lend a hand Smile

On topic, the Slingshot response is classic.  Maybe reply with a handful of words you've made up?

edit: I've changed your IP address and URL for your privacy.

The last time I (remember) using Slingshot email "support" they refused to answer any questions and told me to ring them.

10min is really annoying, I've rarely if ever seen a forum with such a low lockout.  Not being able to edit/update the 1st post makes sticky threads pretty useless too imo.

Going completely off topic. But we have done lots of things for you guys lately. We can only think we can do some things for ourselves. We had problems with people editing posts weeks after the original comments were made, changing the whole thread and in a couple of cases hiding the poster's real intentions - which weren't good as we found out later when details of court cases came out.

We have extended it to 15 minutes. This is more than enough time to fix typos or clarifiy some point. After this consider it locked.

So a few days ago I had a call from "withheld" on the mobile with someone claiming to be from slingshot saying that it had been done.

But its not.

replying to the emails from their useless helpsystem gets me an autoreply that I need to go somewhere to log it again.

I think what happened is that the first ticket number was from one system, and I had a reply with another reference number in it so the first ticket was closed at that time. I dont really know, Its been dragging on long enough, I dont see how this can be so hard to get done?
