Just want to say how much I enjoy having switched from Vodafone to 2degrees. I switched because I didn't enjoy my mobile phone company ripping me and lots of their other clients off by being in league with scamster companies providing dodgy services. When I posted my reasons for doing switching on another Geekzone forum I was warned that 2degrees would be taking on these scammers as business partners as well - well they haven't!

Telecom and Vodafone have got a good chunk of their profits by scamming their users through devious web sites. The list of SMS customers below show a large percentage of dodgy websites who they are in league with in scamming their client base:
Vodafone: http://www.vodafone.co.nz/services/txt-and-pxt/premium-interactive-code-details.pdf
(Telecom: don't seem to want to publish their list of shame but they are similar to Vodafone's)
Pretty much all of the services that cost over $1.00 are scams.

These sites lure users in with scams such as Love Calculator, IQ Quiz, Death Quiz etc., they steal mobile numbers from Facebook and other forwarding sources and hide terms in small print which requires scroll down to find. They say they require a text back from the mobile for sign up but in fact don't need a text back to sign up their victims. As well as Telecom and Vodafone getting profits from unsuspecting Kiwis, foreign rip-off artists are alos extracting millions out of New Zealand with this scam.
Just some of these dodgy sites are:
www.cooliqquiz.com
www.lovecalculator.co.nz
www.quizclubtv.com
www.ultimaterugbyquiz.com
luvquizzes.com
www.quizalerts.com
www.my1pureluv.com/NZ.
www.absolutesoulsecrets.com.au
www.funchat.co.nz
www.ursoulmatch.com
yourdestinyrevealed.co.nz
www.glomobi.com
www.jamster.co.nz
www.getyourcrush.com
funmobile.com

Some of these have now been shut down but they are just as quickly set up again under new URL's. They are shut down because they are dodgy but Telecom and Vodafone are still happy to do business with them when they re-incarnate themselves.

The 2degrees list of SMS companies that they are signed with can be found here:
2degrees: http://www.2degreesmobile.co.nz/c/document_library/get_file?folderId=28350&name=DLFE-401.pdf&p_p_id=20
These all look legit to me but I would be interested in hearing form anyone who has been ripped off by any of them.

Maybe you could promote 2d to people as being more reliable - and scam free.

While you're quick to say Vodafone and Telecom are scamming people those people who complain about these services have all submitted their number to sites to receive information.

2degrees do have some known "scammers" (in your words) on their list including numerous from Free Message Ltd (www.frmsg.com) who are one of the biggest players out there. They are certainly not "scammer" free by any means.

That would depend entirely on how you define "best". If you're to look at many aspects that people consider important today such as coverage, being 3G capable and offering good data speeds and pricing it doesn't rank well.

In many other respects however including casual pricing it does rate well, particularly for low end users.

And JohnR has nothing better to do than patrol this forum (and others) attempting to shut down any discussion of this topic by deriding those who feel strongly about this method of scamming. Does he derive all or some of his income from Vodafone or Telecom I wonder?
I can't see that his contribution to this discussion adds any value.

It's noted on Johnr's profile his association with Vodafone. You don't need to wonder.

Same here.  This looks a bit like a replay of her rant about Vodafone about 6 months ago..

You state 2 things I'll like to ask you about....

"Telecom and Vodafone have got a good chunk of their profits by scamming their users through devious web sites."
and
"foreign rip-off artists are alos extracting millions out of New Zealand with this scam"

What are you sources for this information?

To be honest, I really don't see him deride people simply for their opinion on "premium SMS" - just you.  And to be honest, it's kind of understandable.  You rant on about it, but yet consistently fail to provide evidence of your accusations, you accuse everyone who disagrees with you of working for Vodafone or Telecom, and frankly you've never posted in any thread that doesn't discuss this one singular topic - even your introduction post was a soapbox for an anti-premium-SMS rant.

Also, I believe JohnR derives all of his income from Vodafone, as the tag "Vodafone NZ" on all of his posts would indicate.
