Hi,

I'm connected to Orcon via Telecom Wholesale. My DSL line has an attenuation of 43db and the sync rate fluctuates between 3-5Mbps (although I'm in the Viaduct, downtown Auckland).

On my orcon broadband authentication page it says: Operating mode: G.992.1 G.DMT or ANSI T1.413 iss 2

My modem (thomson tg585v7) is reporting G.992.5 (ADSL2+). Would it be possible to get a higher sync rate by forcing the modem to use ADSL1 only (G.992.1)?

I did some googling but couldn't find a way do do it. I'm not afraid to use command line but there's nothing in the CLI manual on this.

Thanks.

Hi tcpdump

Ignore what the auth page is saying, i don't think its actually correct. We don't know what Operating mode your line is in as its on the Telecom wholsale DSL.

Being in the Viaduct, are you connected via a cabinet? because otherwise you should have ended up connected to Orcon kit at the exchange.

the only way you will get higher sync rates is move closer to the exchange, your attenuation  of 43db means your limt is about 5000Mbps and nothing you can do at your end will change that fact,

Common sense is not as common as you think.

There's no Orcon+ network in my area and I'm probably in the exchange (hence the huge attenuation on the line).
According to Telecom wholesale, a cabined is scheduled for my area in .. september 2011 !!

I'm not sure to be honest. The address is: 101/125-51 Customs Street West, Auckland Central, Auckland City

According to Telecom Wholesale Maps.

Sorry, we don't appear to have current information for this address.

A pre-qualification check is required to determine what broadband services, if any, are available at this address.

I wish :(

I asked the Orcon Customer Service and they said only Telecom Wholesale plans for me.

I'd go for the Naked DSL plan immediately if I'd be in an Orcon+ exchange. Is there any way I can double check this?

Thank you.
