It had to be done, everyone keeps on going on about how slow it is compared with 3G

Using my Nokia E63 via Bluetooth I got the following via the 2Degrees Edge network. I think it's pretty good considering how slow the Vodafone 2G network is.

The biggest problem is the excessive latency. While EDGE is no match for 3G it's fine for casual data usage but slow page lookups can become annoying if you're using it for browsing large web pages.

Trying to SSH over EDGE makes you want to stab your eyes out because of the latency.

It's the same thing as Satellite Internet. It's latency is terrible, but it's actually not bad for browsing the web or doing emails.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Relax boys, 3G is coming! We're just making sure it's going to be the best it can be before we unleash it on New Zealand. :-)

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

3G cant be far away.
It would seem pretty shortsighted to launch a decent mobile broadband offering on EDGE.

But it's on 2100 so what happens outside the metro areas??  2100 is not renowned for it's long distance  hence the reason Telecom use 8500 and Voda 900..

Are 2 degrees still actively building out their network to increase coverage?

That is awesome! Will this happen ONLY after 2degrees launch their 3G network? Why cant we use it at the moment?

3G Roaming is not enabled

Would look odd if 2degrees rural customers could use 3G and City folk not

Easy answer... 2Degrees have not released 3G on their own cellsites so they have not activated 3G roaming yet.

Apparently there is a lot to do with the handshake between a 2degrees 3G site and a Vodafone 3G roaming site...

I suspect that 2D will launch 3G at the 12 month anniversary of their launch last year..

Agreed. Would make sense if they launched it one year after starting... :)
