Hey Geekzone,
Just wondering if any one received a call from slingshot wanting you to sign up...
It started out with a female calling me and talked to me... and then for no apparent reason I was put on hold and transferred to someone (In New Zealand). They were pretty keen at this stage to get me to Slingshot... I'v tried ringing slingshot for my grandparents and i was on hold for 20 minutes (This is not good)... When I brought this point up the guy told me "I'v very sorry sir, but this is very strange... We ensure this will never happen again", [But reading up it seems to be common of SlingShot]. And then I said, "If I wanted to choose a ISP i would chose Orcon rather then slingshot, because" and he then said "Sir let me stop you there... You would rather go to a company that out sources their call center to the UK? You would rather pay more for internet?" I replied with "Yes, I would pay more, and FYI there call center is in New Zealand, unlike yours" THis rant when on and on and on with him then saying that Orcon's call center is now in the Philippines.

Then what i found amazing is he told me that Orcon is owned by AT&T (Yes the US cell phone carrier). When for a fact I know its owned by Kordia (A SOE).

He had not much to say after this and was pretty blown away that I was right...

Anyone got something like this from SlingShot?

Interesting...specially since SS themselves used Indian based call centers to do sales calls a while back (do they still now ?).

Could always tell it was Slinghsot tho, shocking line and English... and then the classic "we can beat any deal you currently have for internet and phones"
"what, you can beat free ?" (we didnt pay for our services at the time)
"Yes"

Narh, I got them to stop calling me, even though I am a Slingshot customer they would still try and get me to join them. And yeah, the helpdesk only taking 20mins is pretty fast as I find it's normally 30mins or if they are busy then it's around an hour.

Still try are NZs cheapest ISP.

Yeah, but you get what you pay for... I now recommend Orcon to people, Sure the cost a bit more... But at least you can get to their support desk fast.

Hi everyone,

Just to confirm - all of our staff are based right here in NZ.

Some of our representatives might have accents from other countries, but they are all working from Kiwiland. Our contact centre is located in Symonds St, Auckland.

thanks,
Nikki (brand manager)

Just a quck question, Hope I don't sound racist, but... Why would you employ someone that cannot speak english compared to a person who speaks english as a first language?

they probly had the skills/exp to go with the job....

if i was a employer i would go for someone that can do the job and not look at the accent.
i mean if they pass the interview then they must be able to speak good english

Hi there,

Yes that's right - we look for the right people for the job, regardless of any accent they might have. Solid English skills are important of course, but accent isn't.
Thanks,
Nikki

If you can't find a better job than making harassing unsolicited phone calls to people in their own private homes then there is something wrong with you, off the top of my head I couldn't think of a more unfullfilling job than this, nobody in this country at least should have any reason to work this job.
