Hi

I have had a crappy telecom phone for 3 years because of 500 txt.

I always wanted a Vodfone phone but its way too expensive to txt..and the phones cost too much

So anyway a good phone came along the Nokia 3710 $450 from vodafone..

This is what I did.. I bought a 3710 from trademe Digi Parallel Imports

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=294334007

for $308, thats a $142 saving and put it on 2Degrees and transfered my Telecom number over to my new 3710..

So I now have a great phone and have 500txt..  all for a reasonable cost..

I am very happy with my new phone and network...Everything seems to going well..

Have I missed anything.. Is this story too good to be true..

thank you,,

You really didn't have to wait until a handset comes to Vodafone, seeing you didn't even buy from them after all.

Thats true. I went to vodafone then pricespy to find the cheapest one. Which lead me to trademe. I was worried about getting a parallel imported phone. But took the plunge as the saving put the phone within my budget..
Its just when things go smoothly I get worried Ive missed something.

I made this post for two reasons. To help others make a good phone purchase and move to  2Degrees and to find out if there was something I missed that may have made my strategy not so good..

I too have just bought a new phone and moved to 2 degrees. I got the Nokia 5130 for $150 from Dick Smith. Choose a nice 022 number that the family can remember. Loaded up $20 of credit and I am set.

The Edge is fine for the Gmail app and opera browsing off mobile websites. The phone can replace my iPod as well. Just need to get the sync of podcasts working smoothly. I even managed to sync my Google contacts over the air using syncml. The Nokia OVI software didn't have any way of importing contacts.

As for 2 Degrees I like the website and being able to track my usage which can't be done on VF. I haven't made any calls yet but coverage at home is great.

I think what the original poster has done is fine and a sign that good deals do exist, you just need to do a bit of research and know what your usage really is.

Question regarding moving from VFNZ->2D:

-if i port my number and its part of a "family deal" where you can call the other members as many times as you like...will this this remain?

If the "family deal" is from vodafone. Would you seriously expect it to remain in place when you move your number to another mobile phone provider??

Yep once i had entered the server address correctly it worked like charm. I used Sony Ericcson software to up load to google, edited the contacts which was over due, then synced over the air with the new Nokia.

The Google maps app has stopped showing my position but otherwise works well along with the gmail app.

All I need now is google calendar sync and I am all set
